Disappointed with this year’s post-holiday clearance drops?

All deal hunters know the BEST way to score the lowest prices on home decor, seasonal candy, and more is to stalk the clearance section right after the holidays. Unfortunately, we’ve been checking out a few of our favorite stores and haven’t had much luck finding hot Valentine’s Day buys.

On our most recent trip to Target, we found empty shelves reminiscent of the lacking grocery store shelves that are more and more common these days. 😩

However, just because our store aisles weren’t blessed with many Valentine’s Day bargains, doesn’t mean your store doesn’t have some hidden clearance aisles ready to be picked through! Clearance items, but especially seasonal clearance, are usually in places you wouldn’t think of looking.

For example, I’ve found MAJOR discounts on select toys in-store at Walmart after the Christmas season in and near the Garden Center. Stores like Walmart and Target also don’t always put out large clearance signs, so you’d likely miss some deals if you’re not checking price tags on shelves or the actual products.

Squishmallow Slipper Clearance

AND, always be sure to scan items because they may be marked down more than the tag shows! We discovered these cute Squishmallow Slippers on sale for $7 (regularly $11.88) BUT they scanned for just $4.50. 🙌🏼

Hip Tip: If you’re looking for deals at Walmart, be on the lookout for their special yellow sign or clearance tag! Yellow may be the universal color for clearance, because Target also uses yellow shelf tags to mark their clearance items.

Some lucky shoppers are sharing their Valentine’s Day clearance finds on Instagram!

Casey Clearance Craze found kids plushies, beauty gift sets, home decor and more on clearance. With 50% off being taken off automatically at the register, she was able to snag a few items for up to 90% off their retail price.

LivingWithSamm hit up her local Walgreens and found a TON of Disney tumblers, toys, candy and home decor on sale for up to a whopping 90% off!

Jay’s Hauls had more luck than our team did at their local Target, where he saw cute Valentine’s Day decor, craft supplies, writing utensils and more on clearance. AND many items were priced under a buck!

Have little readers at home? Lauren from TXFrugalFinds located some HOT deals on Valentine’s Day-themed children’s books!

The shelves in-store may be lacking this year, but we were able to find SOME V-Day clearance in-store and online at Michaels! We also spotted clearance decor and home items at Kohl’s, but only a very limited amount is still available for purchase online.

What’s better than clearance? These freebies, of course!

I bought mini cupcakes for $1.74 my oldest loves them. I bought Frozen Valentine’s cards for the future 16 total for $2.00 I bought a cute Target Rainbow pillow throw pillow (normally $10) for $5 and added to her Easter basket. Not much else. I bought cute stuff but not much left at Target all stuffed in an end cap but happy I bought all easter stuff and done 😂 lol

Certain stores seemed like they didn’t get enough valentine stocking to begin with so that may be why. I was at meijer and they had a couple onesies for cheap that’s about it.

I got a bunch of the mondo llama craft kits at target for $3! I teach so I’m home with my 2 children during the summer and it’s nice to have activities tucked away for a rainy day.

That’s awesome, Mrsg! Thanks for sharing! Did you find them with Valentine’s clearance or was it a surprise find in the crafts department? I love sleuthing the store for clearance!

      • MrsG

It was in the valentines clearance. They had a random shelf in the middle of the aisle by the seasonal items.

We got a bunch of those crafts as well for rainy days or gifts for friends. Ours were in the craft aisle.

I tell H2S about this store ALL the time, BIG LOTS! LOVE IT in my little town, get all my holiday disposable tableware from there then go back at the end of the holiday for CLEARANCE for the NEXT YEAR’S holiday. I did a pickup order with a coupon the other day, I mainly try to shop there only with their store coupons, some things are overpriced otherwise, the small 2-sided valentine’s day clearance display caught me at the door. Snagged 4 great tea towels, like YOU ARE SO LOVED and another theme that we can use both year round, gifted one to our 93 yr old nana from all of us and another to the caregiver, 75 CENTS EACH! Also got $3 bundles of napkins and plates for 75CENTS each—sign said 50% off but these deals meant valentine was 75% off!! For the LLAMA fans, there was lots! Even teddy bears for just over $1, great for next year but I skipped them, we don’t collect them much.

WOW! Awesome score, Justina! We’re gonna have to check that out!

On our way home we stopped at a small town Walmart to stretch our legs n pick up milk, bread, and sandwich meat. I was thrilled to see a huge clearance section. No candy but picked up a heart wreath, a heart wall hanging and several ceramic pieces for next years decorating, all at 75% off. At the end of the section was an endcap with a few large toy boxes. My daughter was thrilled to find a barbie dreamhouse for $40!!! We scooped it up and rearranged our luggage to fit it into the car! She has not stopped playing with it since.

Completely agree! Was really impressed with Big Lots this year, so much on clearance and yes, Valentine’s Day is currently at 75%!

You can also just craft all your valentines cards and decorations.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yes! Great tip, Kristy! Thank you!

Agree that selection was disappointing this year. Even things like Valentine’s Day kids books were still scanning at full price a week later.

    • C

Yeah, idk Where these ppl are finding 90% off of books, but here valentines books, heck even coloring books are still full Price! I was able to grab some cute outfits at target and Walmart for 90% off and some pillows at target before they switched the sign over at 90% off.. Walmart I also got some hair accessories

  7. snowkatt

I walked into a Walgreens yesterday and their Valentine’s stock was still only 40% off.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing! Good to know what you spotted at your Walgreens!
