6 Must-Read Books That Stole Our Hearts in 2024
Check out our team’s best book recommendations for 2024!
Our team loves diving into new reads! To wrap up 2024, we’re sharing our favorite book recommendations of the year! There’s a book to inspire every kind of literary adventure!
Here are our team’s top 6 book recommendations for 2024:
1. If you like historical fiction The Women by Kristin Hannah was many of our Hip sidekicks’ favorite books in 2024.
“This book completely captivated me from the start. The book tells the story of Fran, a young woman who joins the Army Nurse Corps during the Vietnam War. The characters felt so real, and I found myself thinking about the story long after I finished. I’ve been recommending it to everyone – friends, family, and anyone looking for a really engaging story that has all the things – romance, drama, and history.” – Bryn
“I am going to second The Woman by Kristin Hannah. It was definitely one I couldn’t put down. A book that you feel like you know the characters in real life.” – Elizabeth
“I have to 3rd The Women. It might be the best book I’ve read in the last 5 years it is SO. GOOD.” – Alli
2. If you like dystopian fiction…I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman was one of Soleil’s favorite books.
I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman – $14.69 (reg. $16.95)
“This book was written by the daughter of Holocaust survivors and she uses their experiences to imagine a dystopian world post-imprisonment where she and a few other women escape. In the journey to finding another life (non-spoiler: they never do) the narrator explores the freedom of life without influence – not from society or men or politics or even moral commonplace. This book really poses the question of necessity versus influence. I will never ever stop thinking about this book. I could see it becoming a classic read in educational settings! 10/10! ” – Soleil
3. If you like a psychological thriller, The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose was Krystal’s favorite book.
The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose – $11.27 (reg. $17.99)
“The twists and turns hooked me the entire time. This book captivates you from the very first page with little to no return. You’ll read two pages and ‘try’ to put it down only to realize your tablet is now going with you to every room you enter because you MUST know what happens next. The wife, a mistress, and one of them is dead?! Ha yes, please! I’ll probably read it again before the year ends.” – Krystal
4. If you like memoirs Only Say Good Things by Crystal Hefner was Emily’s only read, but a good one.
Only Say Good Things by Crystal Hefner – $19.51 (reg. $30)
“It’s probably the only book I listened to this year but it was so fascinating, captivating, emotional, and enlightening in that it made it clear how easy it is to pass judgment on people without knowing their full story. It’s a fast listen too — only 6.5 hours according to Audiobooks.” – Emily
5. If you like Western books Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry is in Madison’s top three books of all time.
Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry – $17.96 (reg. $24.99)
“Yes, I am totally late to the game here, but this book is my Roman Empire. A grand American Western epic stuffed with richly layered characters, adventure, yearning, overlapping storylines, betrayal, and so, so much more. I can’t begin to describe how much I wish I could read this for the first time again. Before picking it up, I thought ‘What could this author possibly yap about for 864 pages, it’s just about a cattle drive!’ and then, by the 864th page, I ate my words and I was begging the book to be twice as long, or better yet, never end! I had never read a Western previously, but this is now happily in my top 3 books of all time list, despite being from a genre I’d never normally gravitate towards. If you read ONE Western in your life, let it be this one!” – Madison
6. If you like autobiographies, I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy was Denise’s favorite book.
I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy – $15.39 (reg. $27.99)
“I loved this because of how honest it was and how hard it must have been for her to recount the memories.” – Denise
