My Honest Joybird Review May Have You Rethinking Your Next Online Furniture Purchase…
Let’s talk Joybird, aka the company to NEVER buy furniture from… 😩
Grab a cup of coffee and join me as I share my furniture shopping experience with a company called Joybird.
As many of you may know, my family and I recently moved to Dallas, Texas and by default, we’re in need of quite a bit of furniture to furnish our new home. I was so excited when I discovered a totally new-to-me furniture site, however, this isn’t quite the product review you’re used to reading from me… (it’s not at all like my Article experience!)
Ever heard of Joybird?
If you’re like any of my Hip sidekicks, you may have seen their beautiful website pop up on a Facebook or Instagram ad recently. They have an aesthetic similar to West Elm and they really stand out with some pretty unique-looking pieces too!
To me, this company seemed like a totally legit site!
What made me even more excited when I found them was that they had tons of “quick-ship” options I could shop. According to their website, these quick ship items would be ready to ship in 2 weeks – perfect since I was only entertaining furniture retailers that could ship out ASAP. 🙌🏻
However, they’re not the most affordable site around.
That said, I did end up finding some really awesome pieces that I couldn’t pass up, so I let the pretty website & furniture pieces sidetrack me from reality.
Simply put, when stuff is more expensive and a website looks so attractive, I tend to assume it’s totally legit. Therefore, I had zero hesitations when placing my order. That’s when things started to go south with Joybird. 😫
I found two really cute bed frames with quick-ship options, so I took the plunge and ordered. Never once did I check Joybird reviews or do some research before spending quite a bit of money on new furniture. BIG OOPS!
Expensive lesson learned. 😖
I found it very frustrating that Joybird charges you for all your furniture immediately upon ordering! This is unlike many online furniture stores I’ve shopped, which will fully charge you once your order actually ships from their warehouse or vendor.
After weeks of patiently waiting, I checked their site only to see the delivery date for our highly anticipated beds kept getting pushed back. 😫 I started to get really worried about Joybird and feeling like none of my stuff was ever going to be delivered, so I decided to look at some of the Joybird reviews online… which I undoubtedly should have done to begin with.
And boy, if I had seen the reviews from the get-go, I would have NEVER ordered anything! 😱
Out of over 800 verified Joybird reviews on this ratings site, 96.7% of them were one-star and none were 5 or even 4 stars at all! 😫
Here are just a handful of awful Joybird reviews I saw:
“My $2,000 sofa order has not been fulfilled. No customer service to talk to. They have stolen our money and I will be filing a complaint with AG’s office.” – John
“Do not let the pretty pictures on Instagram fool you. This company takes your money and in return has the poorest customer service I’ve ever encountered. You’re lucky if you ever even receive your furniture. I purchased 6 dining chairs on March 28th, 2021, and haven’t received them all yet (it’s September 2021).
When I initially received the order months later, 3 of the 6 chairs were damaged and had to be returned/reordered. Waited months more and it was finally time to receive the 3 remaining chairs. We only received ONE of the 3, and guess what, it was damaged. The other two were lost at a delivery hub and still waiting to be found.
Don’t hold your breath getting anyone on the phone either. After 1.5 hrs of being on hold, I gave up. This still isn’t resolved, and I hope to get the rest of my chairs before the new year but I won’t get my hopes up.” – Laura
“This company is absolutely terrible. They literally just scam you out of your money and have the worst customer service possible. My couch not only came a month late, but only 3/4ths of it came, and one cushion had a huge oil stain on it! They refuse to replace the cushion and have not compensated me for anything despite them telling me I would get a partial refund for some of the couch being lost.
I have talked to multiple people in management. Nothing is resolved. I also went as far as emailing the CEO and got nothing in return. I don’t understand how they can get away with this or escape lawsuits or how they’re even still in business. Absolutely terrible!” – Abby
Need I say anymore? 😩…And speaking of bad reviews, check out all of the complaints left by customers on their Facebook posts!
“Do not buy if you don’t have patience. Just got 1/3 of a couch delivered. No response on the rest.” – Sarah
After going down a rabbit hole of horrible reviews, multiple people saying they only received parts of their orders, and many other nightmares, I decided I wanted to cancel my order and look somewhere else. Besides, each of my “quick-ship” pieces were now apparently back-ordered, and at this point and I wasn’t willing to wait for who knows how long. 🤦🏼♀️
Never once did it cross my mind canceling an unreceived order would be such an issue. But oh my gosh…
Joybird literally doesn’t even answer their phone just like the reviews claim. 😟 It’s like they have NO customer service department. 🤪
Honestly, their customer service is nowhere to be found! I called multiple times for days – it’s a mystery if anyone even works for this company at all? 🤔
My cute Hip sidekicks 4-year-old (pictured above) could run this show better than them. 😆
Oddly enough, they have an option where you can opt to have them call you back, but don’t get your hopes up because they don’t ever call back. I opted to try that a few times (AFTER waiting on hold for over an hour each time) with no success and never a call back.
One day while working I was so determined to get ahold of someone so I put my phone on speaker and worked from my laptop while waiting.
Two HOURS later the phone ended up disconnecting. 😤
Never got ahold of anyone and had zero success with emailing them.
After all of these numerous attempts to communicate with them, I decided to just dispute the entire thing with my credit card company.
I had never even done a dispute before but learned that it can take anywhere from 60-90 days to be resolved, although often the credit card company can get it done sooner.
AFTER disputing the charge with my credit card company – and my husband reporting them to the Better Business Bureau, it was only THEN that we got an email from Joybird about canceling my order.
How convenient, right? 🤦🏼♀️
Well, it only gets more ridiculous.
The Joybird rep proceeded to tell me they could cancel my order, but that they would still charge me a 5% cancellation fee for my whole order! 😱 Um, what?!
Like, the entire reason I’m canceling is that my items were supposed to be quick-ship and yet, each one keeps getting pushed back. All I wanted to do was cancel my unshipped items due to the inaccuracy of what I was ordering and the delivery timeline.
So long story short, as I know this whole furniture rant is getting quite long 🤪, after much back & forth we did receive a 100% refund on our furniture! 🙌
I know quite a few of my Hip sidekicks have heard about Joybird and always wondered if the quality was good so I knew I needed to share my horrible experience with everyone so you’re well informed about this company when making online furniture purchases.
And note to self, checking online reviews before forking over any amount of money is so, SO important!
And if you want to read about products we actually love, here ya go!
Wow!!! Thanks for sharing, never ordered from them and now I never will! You are saving all your readers from getting ripped off!
You’re so welcome, Susan!
Seriously, thank you for this! I was so close to being sucked in, I’ve been following them for months! How awful!
You’re most welcome! Super glad this was helpful!
Check out Poly & Bark, excellent customer service and quality. Thank you for the review!
You’re most welcome, Kate! Thanks for the suggestion!
I must have gotten lucky because I had nothing but good experiences with Joybird. I purchased a couch, armchair, table lamps, and a number of other pieces at the height of the 2020 Covid pandemic. I called customer service many times to check on the status of my orders, to make changes to my fabric choices, and to cancel or return some things that didn’t work. I never had a problem getting a customer service rep on the phone and they were always courteous and helpful. I’m happy with everything I purchased, especially the couch which is high quality, stylish and comfortable. Sorry to hear that their customer service has deteriorated since I dealt with them.
Thank you for this! I am wanting to move and this was one of the furniture websites I was checking out. Well that’s out now, lol.
You’re welcome! SO glad this was helpful!
Hi Collin. So sorry for your frustrating experience. But thanks for sharing so we can avoid the same issue. And thanks for the reminder 🙂 Welcome to Texas!
Aww, You bet! 🤗 Thanks so much for the warm welcome!
Wow, this post makes me really sad! We have two Joybird couches that we absolutely love. We ordered them about three years ago, and actually the first set we received we did not like in our space, so they let us replace them with different ones at no charge! Shipping did take several weeks, but we had no issues contacting customer service. My sister and several friends have also ordered from Joybird as well with no issues. I hate that this is happening to people, because we really do think that our couches looks stunning and have held up well against kids and pets.
I’m so glad to hear you are loving your couches and had a good experience! It makes me happy to hear about the quality customer service you received. I do wonder if maybe they have new management or something since you’ve ordered? Regardless thanks for sharing with us, Ellen!
They used to be a really good company until they sold to Lazy-boy. Now it’s overpriced garbage.
Welcome to Dallas!!
Thanks so much! 🥰
I have a Joybird couch, ordered two years ago, when they weren’t having pandemic-era supply chain issues, but it still took about 3 months to get my couch. When it arrived, the delivery service installed one of the legs crooked so it always squeaked. They sent a repair person about a week later to fix it, and no issues since. I tried to order a larger sectional maybe 6 months ago and had an absolutely horrible experience. I placed my order during a sale and didn’t pick a fabric, so I asked for a swatch kit. I waited 3 weeks and it never arrived. They sent another swatch kit, and it didn’t have any of the velvet fabrics in it, which is what I wanted. After stalking customer service for a few days for an answer, they said they might have run out of velvet swatches and couldn’t send me any (but didn’t really know if they had any or not). At that point, I cancelled my order, which was not to mention the turn-around time was about 5 months to arrive. I’ve been looking into Rove Concepts. They keep some items in stock, so it shouldn’t be 5 months to get a couch.
Thanks for sharing your experience! Feedback like this is so helpful when you are making such an expensive furniture purchase.
Geez, what a horrible experience. So glad your on the other side of it now. I thank you for sharing because companies like Joybird should not be in business; their business practices are unethical and predatory.
TOT, Collin as a woman, coming from another woman, I’m sorry you moved to Texas. The day my daughter left, was the happiest day of my life.
Please file a complaint with the SCC (State Corporation Commission) in addition to the BBB. When the company receives a complaint from the SCC, the office of the company’s president must respond. If not, they can be sanctioned and possibly barred from doing business in that state.
Funny enough everyday I pass the joybird offices in my commute and always think about ordering. But after this review I will pass.
How crazy… and yes, I would definitely recommend passing Amy. 😬
I’ve ordered from Joybird twice in the last six months. My experience was wonderful. Promises kept all along the line. And my furniture is really great–comfortable and well-made.
I have several items from them. but was prior to COVID. They had great service back then
That’s good to hear, but it does seem over the past couple of years their customer service has greatly declined. Such a bummer as their furniture is so darn cute!
While there is zero excuse for lack of customer service, many many many furniture places are dealing with ridiculous delays. We ordered a sectional from Ahsleys in February and were told May delivery only to get most of it in June and 1 in July. I know people in the same predicament with different furniture stores
Hey Christina,
Totally understand that and how hard the past couple of years have been for retailers. ❤️
I think what frustrated me the most (way more so than the delayed shipping) is that I never was able to get a hold of anyone or communicate with a real live person on the phone. It really feels like they have no one working in their customer service department to at least offer support or come up with a solution. Just seems so odd when people are spending thousands on their furniture.
Sorry to hear Collin, that is frustrating:/ We have heard of Joybird, but haven’t ordered from them. We just bought some really nice lighting for our new home from the baby/kid dept of Restoration Hardware. You can save hundreds doing that and they are very good quality. We had some sconces arrive broken and they were happy to replace them, no questions. Also, we have several article pieces and LOVE them! Wonderful customer service there also.
Yay! I love hearing good customer service stories – and I LOVE your tip about ordering from the baby/kids department at RH – I actually have bought some things from their teen department for my home and I was excited about the savings compared to when you buy stuff from their regular site.
Also, I LOVE, love, love Article too. And also really appreciate their customer service and how responsive they are! 🙌

I have recently moved myself. Be aware that furniture, mattresses, etc can indeed take months to get in the pandemic shipping collapse depending on what you are ordering. Ask specific questions of your seller. My advice would be to shop local and ask what do you have in the warehouse if your need is immediate. I used traditional vendors (Sam’s, Laz-Boy, JCPenney) and yes indeed there is a wait but they were very upfront about it. I’m so sorry for your experience and grateful that you are so willing to share.
Awesome tips!! Thank you for sharing!
I’m sorry you had such a terrible experience. It could be because of Covid supply chain issues. We ordered a sofa last November from them and it was delivered right before Christmas. Although the delivery was a little longer than quoted, we were very happy with the delivery and the sofa. Also they are owned by La-z-boy. That is who delivered our sofa, even though we ordered from Joybird.
Thank you for your thorough and super helpful review. 😀
You bet!
Wow … while I like the designs that I have seen in ads, I have never looked at their site. Our custom Bassett sectional was cheaper, though my husband still thinks that I was nuts. And yes – we did order pre-covid.
I ordered a purple bed from Macy’s in March. Still not here. Covid is causing huge delays with furniture I was told.
Never heard of them.
I am “fairly” good at checking the reviews/comments, but this is a very good reminder to always check them before ordering. *And never to order from joybird. Thank you, Collin!
Yes, and it was a VERY good reminder for me too! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
My couch is from Joybird. We ordered it in 2017 and absolutely love it.It took 2 months after placing the order to receive the delivery. But we were able to track every step of the production in our account.
Not sure how their service is now but would highly recommend based on the quality.Worth the money spent.
Hi Sally,
Thanks so much for the feedback and so glad to hear your experience was a good one and that the quality of your couch was great. I do think over the years their customer service has declined and I can’t speak on their actual furniture since I never ended up receiving mine.
Collin, just WOW! That’s horrible you experienced this and that such a company is allowed to operate. Not to get into a debate over social media site policing their sites but this should have been better vetted by them. I’m so sorry you had to go thru this. None of us or at least I’m not the best at remembering to read reviews. Thanks for loving us and keeping us informed! I hope y’all are loving Dallas!! I’m in Waco, Tx and love being between Austin and Dallas.
Thanks so much for the comment. I really appreciate it! And HELLO Neighbor! 👋 We are planning to come visit Waco soon – and are just lovin’ being in Texas. ❤️
I actually did not have a bad experience with customer service and I love my couch. My only complaint is that I paid extra for the pet friendly fabric. My couch is Navy blue, my dog is golden….let’s just say it looks like she rubbed her body all over it every single time sh walks by. Same with my grey cats. So basically I have to vacuum it constantly or it looks disgusting
I would buy their furniture again, but after I no longer have animals in my house
I just bought a sofa from Castlery and I have to say, they were OUTSTANDING. It’s a bit pricey but the quality matched the cost. That being said, I got my sofa on sale, but I’d pay full price. I used to work at a high end design retailer where we sold $10,000 sofas. The quality of Castlery is comparable.
So awesome! Thank you for the recommendation. I am definitely going to check out this furniture site as I honestly had not heard of them before.
Thank you for saving me! I was considering ordering several pieces of furniture from Joybird!
You are so, so welcome! 🙌 I truly would avoid their site.
Thanks for the warning. FedEx is having major issues. I assume they are short of staff too.
Today, Wednesday, my husband just got off the phone talking to FedEx about an office chair that was supposed to be delivered last Saturday according to their tracking. They said their shipping warehouse had no place to put it so they had to move it to another local shipping warehouse. We’re in CA. It came from Maryland, but has been less than 20 miles away for 6 days now.
We ordered 2 quick ship chairs 4 years ago. Delivery was just as stated. Came quickly and they were perfect color, have held up great and craftsmanship is beautiful.
This summer we ordered a matching ottoman. Like you shipping date was put back several times. It finally came, matches perfectly, and we are pleased with it. That being said, while shipping may be pandemic related and could be forgiven, there is no excuse for bad customer service. Will not order again
Hi Cindy,
I could not agree with you more and totally understand shipping delays, but not no communication and horrible customer service.
I’m so happy though that you did receive your furniture and are pleased with the pieces! 🙌
So sorry for all your problems but thank you for letting us know to stay away. We order from Wayfair and even with having to put the furniture together we have never had a problem. We even got a Murphy bed from them in 5 days.
Yes, I am a BIG fan of Wayfair too!
This is shocking to me because my experience is the exact opposite. I ordered a sectional sofa from Joybird during a 35% off sale. The delivery time on the website stated six weeks at the time (early this year) and my furniture was delivered in exactly 6 weeks and exactly to my specifications. We absolutely love our sofa! It’s stylish, comfy and we were able to customize the color and get pet-friendly, easy-to-clean fabrics!
WOW! That’s amazing that you had such a great experience. Glad to hear you didn’t experience the same issues and love your sofa.
Our Joybird couch is just stunning and I had the complete opposite experience, with one exception. I ordered it around Black Friday 2020 and it wasn’t delivered until March 2021. The delivery date did get pushed back, but I anticipated that happening with Covid. I did receive updates via email from time to time and I could check the status online whenever I wanted. My only complaint would be that our cushions slide a little. I’ve tried Gorilla grip, but that didn’t work. May need to try something more hardcore like Velcro adhesive. I’d probably give the couch a 4.5/5 stars. My reason for going with Joybird was that they had the EXACT color that I wanted. I did check all of the other online retailers people are mentioning and looked at hundreds of swatches. I’m glad that I went with Joybird, but I’m sorry others have had negative experiences.
Thanks for sharing your personal experience, so glad you received your couch.
I almost bought a cop sofa from there yesterday. Thank goodness I didn’t!
Thank you for sharing and getting the word out about your experience. I’m sure you’re saving many from potentially going through the same thing.
You’r welcome! I really appreciate the feedback.
As much as I love sharing about awesome products and great customer service, I know how important it can be to offer feedback and lessons I’ve personally learned from experiences and purchases that have not gone as planned.
Where did you get the headboard in the photo at the bottom of the article? I love it!
Also, so glad I read this since I’ve contemplated Joybird too 😬
Thanks, Rachel! I got it from this new-to-me furniture site – https://edloefinch.com It was my first time ordering from them.
I’ve ordered from Joybird twice in the last six months. My experience was wonderful. Promises kept all along the line. And my furniture is really great–comfortable and well-made.
I ordered two couches from Joybird. I did research ahead of time, knowing the risk. But I thankfully had a good experience. They were delivered when they said, the quality is decent, I ordered them over a holiday at 35% off. I didn’t like that they charged us for the order off the bat, I thought that was slimy. Otherwise I love our Joybird couches. We got a Bentley fabric that holds up really well with our dogs and cats. Sorry you had a bad experience.
Wow thanks for the heads up! What they did is definitely not ok and also completely illegal – the Federal Trade Commission’s Mail or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule states they have to offer a full refund if you’ve already paid and they push the shipping date back.
Still living thru my nightmare with JoyBird. Bought 5 piece sectional which was delivered Labor Day weekend. Only 4 pieces were delivered and 1 was wrong color. I got a hold of someone via their Chat and was told they’d check the warehouse for the missing piece and respond in 5-7 business days. To date I have never heard anything. Like others, Ive tried calling and never get through. There have been no responses to my emails. The Chat is never online. I’m at a total loss of what to do. I just want the rest of my couch!
I’m so sorry to hear about this. Hoping you get some resolution real soon!
Wow I was seconds away from ordering a rug from them yesterday. Glad this popped up on my Google feed! Thanks algorithm and thank you for writing this.
You’re welcome, Stephen!
Exact same thing happened to me! I just received my credit back this week after I did a dispute thru the credit card company.
Ashley Furniture store does the same thing when you try and return items.
Suggest you try Interior Define or Article for better quality and service (from experience).
I just received my sofa from them and 4 screws that hold up the legs are missing. They promised them in two weeks and said they would hire someone to come attach them. One of the pillow zippers was broken and they said 5 weeks for a new pillow. I financed the couch through their company for 18 months interest free so I won’t be paying another payment until I’m satisfied. Wish I would have seen this but I ordered in May 2021 and they did say October delivery. Most furniture stores are delayed so I didn’t think that was odd. I did not like paying before I received it but when I saw they had showrooms in DC, NY and California I thought they must be legit. I paid a lot and I love the sofa, but I’m worried that they are not going to fix my problems.
Oh wow! That’s frustrating! Thanks for the heads up! Welcome to Dallas! You’ll love it here.
You bet! Thank you so very much! 💕
I know the original owner joybird. They sold to lazy boy. That’s what happens when a big chain store take over. I wish the original 4 guys were there.
I purchased a beautiful pink bed and had no problems, they answered my phone calls and after the purchase sent me a thank you card. My girlfriend ordered a beautiful table and had no problems. I don’t understand what is going on with the other orders….
Your bad experience is super common. I started a Joybird Sucks facebook group a few months ago. I ordered in January (couch, dining table, dining chairs, etc). Couch never came, so I cancelled and got the refund. Only 2/4 chairs came (5 months later). They issued replacement order a month after that, and after waiting 2 more months, they emailed saying those chairs had been discontinued. So yeah, I understand your pain. CBS national news is investigating them currently. If you (or any of your followers here) want to share, the producer’s contact info is in one of the posts on the Joybird Sucks page. sorry it happened to you too 🙁
Oh wow! Thanks so much, Alyson! I just recently heard about that. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing, I was actually looking at Joybird to buy a pretty headboard but now changed my mind. I love the (wicker?) one in your pic. Where can I get that?
You’re welcome, Marls! That one is from a new-to-me furniture site – https://edloefinch.com
The first chair I ordered from joybird did take a very long time to come, but they were up front and honest about the timing….. I put it up to Covid delays. I liked the chair and ordered a second. When that one arrived, it arrived damaged (a manufacturer defect, not delivery defect). The delivery company said i should send it back … And that is where my frustration began. I contacted the company several times via email, website submission, and phone and they took several weeks to get back to me. When they did, they asked me to have the chair redelivered and they would send someone local to fix it or i could send the chair back for a refund minus 5%. I opted to have it redelivered if they arranged someone to come fix it. A couple weeks later the delivery company called to say they were just contacted by Joybird and if i really wanted the chair back ( they seemed frustrated with the company). After redelivery, i contacted Joybird to find out when the repair person would come. They took almost 2 weeks to respond that they would open a ticket for repair and that it would take another 10 days for a repair person to come. So i was stuck with an unfunctional and dangerous chair (for jumping pets and children) clogging up our limited space. The chair was ultimately fixed, but the process was infuriating. I don’t think it is bad furniture, but very bad costumer service that send to only respond after angry messages.
Same experience — waiting since April for the second part of my couch. Bad customer service —wait forever, promises and no follow through. What is the recourse to get what you paid for?
Well, pre-CoVid mine arrived pretty much on time but then fell apart (fabric and stitching literally came apart) very quickly and they refused to replace it. I’ll never buy from this fraud of a company again. Total schlock. Michael
