Favorite new purchase? I think not.

Oprah’s Favorite Things list is filled with gift ideas all will love (hopefully), but my recent bracelet purchase was far from it.

The reality is, I love and respect Oprah – she is one amazing woman who has made a household name for herself. 👏  So, of course, when I hear her recommending literally anything, I assume it’s great.

No questions asked, right?!

Our team recently saw this set of bracelets which not only was on Oprah’s Favorite Things list but they were even recently featured on Good Morning America for 50% OFF – making my total purchase just under $50 after tax & shipping (regularly $80).

Still pretty spendy for some fashionable bracelets if you ask me. 😏 However, IF they were great quality like our team assumed they would be, we were hoping to see if we could get an exclusive deal to share here with all of you.

After receiving said bracelets in the mail that’s when it hit me…

This is why we often test products.

These bracelets are so poorly made.

To keep it real, the two smaller bracelets felt and looked so cheap I honestly would have thought they came out of an arcade vending machine. Plus, when you bend them to put them on they easily get warped & look wonky. No thanks!

To top it off, the larger chain link bracelet which initially felt like somewhat better quality, broke right in half when trying to put it on my wrist. 🤦🏼‍♀️ And that’s coming from someone with tiny wrists to begin with. Oye!

I’m shocked and disappointed that these are even on Oprah’s Favorite Things list. Sure, they look beautiful, but in person, they leave A LOT to be desired even at the sale price I paid.

All of that said, this experience has been a great reminder of why we test so many products here at Hip2Save before they ever hit our site.

This is how I feel every time I see you guys recommend “team favorite” name necklace. I got one in rose gold. I wore it once went to wear it again and it was tarnished. Silver may be different but I was very disappointed.

Oh no!!! I just ordered that in gold as a gift for my mom 😢

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! SO very sorry to hear this. Were you able to contact customer service? You can find the option to message them on the right side of the product page when you scroll down a bit –
My daughter has had the Name necklace for over a year now and it has not tarnished.
      Hoping this is helpful!

    • Ariavenew

Mine also tarnished right away 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • Holly

Same for me. Wore once and went to put it on again a month later and it was tarnished. Like completely different color and awful looking.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Hey there,

So sorry to hear that you were disappointed in your name necklace. I am wearing mine as I type this message and literally have been wearing it for years – not even taking it off to shower. I feel bad that you didn’t have the same experience with the quality. I do have the silver and not the rose gold, so I can’t speak to the quality of that one.

Like Amber mentioned, I would reach out to the seller about this and hopefully you can get a refund.

Thanks for taking the time to share your honest review. ❤️

I’ve had the silver one for 2 years. It still looks great! I wear it several times a week. I’ve given as gifts. I love it! I have no experience with the rose gold tho.

Rose gold turns black on any product unless you spend a lot of money for it.

Thank you for this post and all the very pretty alternatives! I hope you were able to return the bracelets and get a refund.

I looked at the whole O list yesterday. mostly overpriced junk.

That ‘s because you have to pay to get on the list, so they have to raise the prices to compensate and try to break even. I have a co-worker whose family member bussiness was on the list a few years ago.

They applied months ahead and did not think they were interested. Then several months later, they received a package with “all the information” they need to send it in. Mostly was asking for several free samples to be mailed out to different people in the “selection committee, their extended family members and some politicians/famous people”. You were not allowed to have any company identification on certain packages, but you could for the ones being sent to their main offices. They did not want the famous people to know who the product was from and which company. You had to re-label as “gifts” from O or something silly along those lines. I don’t recall the exact words. The nature process was ridiculously from the start but they already had so much invested that, they couldn’t go back.

After that, it took another extra few months. They finally were “selected” and to compensate for all the money they had “invested” (it was a lot, loan type of a lot for a well established Bussiness at time- it was ridiculous) to try and recover some of the money they had spent. It ended up being that they sold a lot but basically barely broke even because of the fees and what nit. They said it was the single worst experience they have ever had as family business that have been around for over half century. They were of course NDA and tons of legal paperwork, so they couldn’t even complain in public.

The list is a scam and I lost any respect I had for the people/company running that list. They act like they are trying to help some small own family run businesses, but it’s not true.

That’s so sad 😞 and not surprising, what a disappointment.

Oprah’s fave thing List is bought and paid for. Oprah used to have integrity. But when she started using her influence for nefarious purposes, that’s when she started losing people, myself included.

    • Jill

      What nefarious purposes?

  7. Hipgrandma

My guess is Oprah really has nothing to do with this list. It’s all promotional items and staff picked stuff

  8. Janice Scaduto

I still want to see Oprah’s favorite things list cuz I always got things from homeless and never did me wrong yet but I’m not that news bracelet was wonky or breakable there’s always one in every you know One bad Apple that got by these assembly line they’re going to happen by accident or they really are cheap maybe she didn’t have nothing to fill her favorite friends listen if you have enough time to look for something else I don’t know I don’t know
