lime chile watermelon fries on platter

Love to snack on fresh watermelon? 🍉

Watermelon is one of my favorite healthy summer snacks, especially when it gets really warm outside. Today, I’m sharing a fun and easy snack: chili lime watermelon fries!

All you do is toss watermelon with chili powder and lime for a sweet, sour, and spicy treat. It may seem odd at first, but trust me – it’s a delicious savory, and sweet combination!

I’ve had similar chili lime mangos (popular in Mexico) served on a stick. It’s delicious, so I knew I’d love this, too!  Plus serving watermelon dippers in the shape of a french fry is a fun idea in itself.

Here are a few recipe tips to keep in mind when making Chile Lime Watermelon Fries:

  • For the lime taste, I had a shaker bottle of True lime crystalized lime, and it works out perfectly for this idea. It comes in handy to season sauces, rice, and meat for grilling too. Of course, you can alternatively use fresh lime juice and zest instead.
  • Customize your desired amount of chili powder and add more if you like it spicier. My kids were eating this snack so I didn’t add much, but I may add more next time for myself!
  • Reduce the number of ingredients by using this seasoning blend. Tajín is a popular chile-lime seasoning, so you get the 2 flavors in one bottle!
  • For a refreshing dipping sauce, add honey and chili powder to some lime-flavored yogurt. It’s yummy, creamy, and kids love it for dipping fruits and veggies!

“Chili Lime Watermelon Fries” is too blandly informational. Recipes taste better with a scoop of hyperbole and a dash of exclamation.

My sisters will love this! There are a lot of spicy sweet combos in Mexico and Texas but I never tried them.
I usually do watermelon sticks cuz they’re easier to transport in a rectangular container than wedges.
The honey mint recipe sounds good too. I’ve had balsamic drizzled watermelon and mozzarella ball skewers which I loved.
Also my Gma would sprinkle a little salt on watermelon if it wasn’t very sweet.

The salt trick is old school! I was taught to do it with chocolate milk. Somehow just a sprinkle enhances the sweetness, even though you would think opposite!

Just buy Tajin seasoning and save time and money. I get it at ALDI but I see it everywhere. It’s so good.

Same here! Even really good on sno cones too! Yeah Summer! I normally just add salt to my watermelon. Thanks H2S for always adding recipes, info, deals, etc. I’m sure many of us enjoy the post that we like & just scroll past those that don’t apply to us! You guys rock! 💗

This is a snack we, Hispanics, eat all the time and with every fruit.
    Not just in the summer.
Nothing new. But we don’t add any of that stuff. Straight salt, lemon and chile powder.
