Ever considered making a bunch of baked grilled cheese sandwiches in the oven? It’s a timesaving method that works great.

Skip the stove and try this baked grilled cheese hack instead!

Sometimes the most simple dinner ideas are the most loved. Melty grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup is one of our go-to favorite combos as it’s easy and so darn comforting.  The only part I don’t love is making one or two sandwiches at a time on a skillet standing over the stove.

Sheet pan oven-baked grilled cheese is the way to go!

This is for sure the most convenient way I have made multiple sandwiches at once to ensure they are nice and warm and melted all at once. No more standing on the stove making one sandwich at a time! This is the method I’ll be doing from now on.

The result is a crispy sandwich on the outside and melty cheesy on the outside. If you have some parmesan cheese, sprinkle some over the top for an extra burst of texture and flavor. Serve them alongside homemade tomato soup to dunk or canned soup works too!

Tips for making oven-grilled cheese sandwiches:

  • Utilize multiple cheese types you may already have on hand or pick your favorites! I loved this cheddar and muenster cheese combo we did. I also sprinkled some parmesan on top for extra flavor. This is of course optional, but so tasty!
  • Be sure to butter the top and bottom of the bread to get crispy results. many people also love to use mayo instead!
  • I used a sliced rustic loaf from my grocery store, but use any sliced bread your family loves.
  • Incorporate sheet pan grilled cheese sandwiches into your meal prep! You can make a bunch of sandwiches and then place them in the fridge or freezer. Your kids or family can then throw them in the toaster or air fryer to heat up easily during the week!

Baked grilled cheese sandwiches are equally as great as skillet ones!

This is a brilliant method and there really isn’t anything much better than a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. My family really loved this simple meal. Let us know if you give the easy sheet pan method a try!

I’m not turning the oven on in this heat!

  2. Pat Goff

I have been making it in my toaster oven for years. I also make a mean monto cristo sandwich in the toaster oven. Yum.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

SO smart to do this in the toaster oven too, Pat! 🙌 Thanks for sharing how you like to make these and other sandwiches! ❤️

  3. Lana

I raised five kids on oven grilled cheese. Probably 35 years of cooking them this way and they are the best!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Great to hear that you’ve enjoyed making the grilled cheese sandwiches this way throughout the years for your family, Lana! 🧀 Thanks for commenting! 🥰

Another option to make a lot of sandwiches at once, you can use a rectangular, flat griddle that covers two of your stovetop burners. That method makes 8 pancakes at a time, or 8 grilled sandwiches, or 8 fried eggs, etc.
Not knocking your way, though, since i haven’t tried it!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yes great idea! I do have one of these too on my stove. Love the suggestion! I also think a plug in griddle would be handy for this too!
