Grilled Frozen Cheese Fries Hip2Save

Don’t let the Summer end before you try this recipe for Grilled Frozen Cheese Fries! This recipe is perfect for camping, tailgating, and/or just watching football games at home.

Grilled Frozen Cheese Fries

Ingredients:

1/2 of a 10 oz. bag of frozen French fries
1/4 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
2 green onions, chopped
1 tablespoon sour cream
2 tablespoons bacon bits, or crumbled bacon
Make amazing Fries on the Grill by Hip2Save.com
Directions:

Lay frozen fries on one large piece of foil with the edges crumpled up around the sides. Cover with another piece of foil over the top of fries, leaving room for steam at the top. Grill on medium high heat with lid down for 20-30 minutes – be sure to turn the foil packet halfway through. After 20-30 minutes, check to see if fries are brown and cooked to desired doneness (I like crispy fries!). Add cheese and grill for another few minutes. Take off grill and add sour cream, onion, and bacon. Serves about 3-4.

We love to grill fries! We have a grill basket we just throw them in. So good!

I need to invest in one because I bet we’d use it so much!

how does a grill basket work, do you still cover with foil

Oh you’ll love! So much better than the oven 🙂

In our house 5 ounces of fries would in no way feed 3-4 people. Not that this is a good thing…
    🙂

    • SD

Haha. So true. Same in our house. I think just 1 person might finish all of the 5 oz 🙂

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Ha –ok so the whole bag of fries says 9 servings, so that’s where that came from! 🙂

    • Tracy

I look at how much serving is on the back. IF it says 9. I say ok there’s 6 people to feed I will do a bag and a half lol

We make these all the time in the oven. Never grilled them before! Excited to try this this way.

I’ve done this exact recipe. So delish however first time was such high heat they all stuck to the tin foil. We’ve perfected it now with a little bit of olive oil or use the nonstick tin foil 😄

I make a potato side on the grilled all the time. Brush a little olive oil on each foil packet or you can use pan spray. I make one packet per person. I put in one potato, peeled and cut up in bite size pieces, 1/4 of a sweet onion more if you like cut up into bite size pieces, a Tb or 2 of butter, 1 tsp of garlic powder sprinkled over the top, and salt and pepper to taste. Sometimes I add green onion and/ or fresh mushrooms. I double wrap the packets so they don’t break open when I flip them. I cook them about 45 mins until the potatoes are tender. Yummy and inexpensive! If I am in a hurry I put the potatoes and onions in the microwave in a glass bowl for about 5 mins to warm them up at little before they go on the grill!

Thanks for another great way to cook potatoes! 😃

That has been a family favorite since I was a kid (long time ago)-we also usually put in sliced or little wider carrots make it have a very nice taste as well, and we also add some olive oil, rather generously, and do not have to be concerned about them going dry or sticking to the foil. And we usually make meatballs to also put in each packet by mixing ground chuck or round mixed with oatmeal; crushed saltimes, or bread crumbs; v8 juice; an egg or 2; spices to suite. Haven’t made these is a long time. Thanks for the idea again.

I love cheese fries and I love this idea. I’ve never thought of doing frozen fries on the grill before–only the oven. Thanks Lina 🙂
