Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate Recipe

(Recipe origin unknown – given to me by a 1st grade teacher)

Ingredients:

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 can (14oz.) sweetened condensed milk
6 cups milk
1 and 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
2 teaspoons vanilla
hot chocolate toppings:  candy canes, marshmallows, whipped cream, white chocolate, & sprinkles etc.
how to make delicious hot chocolate in the slow cooker hip2save.com
Directions: Whisk together all ingredients in the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for about 2 hours until chocolate is melted. Make sure to stir a few times occasionally during the 2-hour period and stir again before serving. Consider setting up a little hot chocolate station with whipped cream and yummy toppings. Refrigerate any leftovers.

How many servings does this make?

    • Bre

I suppose that depends on the size of your cups. I have made this before and we got about 8 cups out of it.

Thank you. Wanted to make this for our Christmas party so I’ll have to triple the recipe.

    Looks yummy and rich….

    Yummy!!

Made this last year for Christmas morning…VERY yummy and VERY rich flavor. I am crazy about chocolate and I couldn’t drink more than a cup!

I actually made this last night. However, I used condensed milk with added chocolate flavor (I’ve only seen it at target) and one cup milk chocolate chips and one cup white chocolate chips. Incredibly rich, but a huge hit!

      Wow awesome!

2 hours on low or high?

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Ok so the recipe I follow says high – but I’ve made it on high and it was way too hot to drink, so I do low and it’s about two hours maybe a little more. Just be careful not to burn 😄

I have a Kroger recipe that is about the same. It is wonderful. I use whole milk instead of cream.

I’m going to try this with mint chips and chocolate chips 🙂

We make this every year n make trail mix with golden Graham, chocolate chips, n marshmallows and watch the polar express. It’s a family tradition!

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Oh great idea with the Golden Grahams! Yum

    • Emilie

      Sounds delish!!

    • Shanna

Thanks for the golden graham tip! I have 3 boxes that I need to use up!!

    that sounds awesome!!!

Would this work with almond or soy milk? I can not drink milk.

    • Jenny

I’m sure it would. It’s just not going to be as thick and rich

I was with my girlfriends tonight and one of them was talking about this recipe and she doesn’t follow this blog at all. How random. We were like sweetened condensed milk and heavy cream?! A southerner made this one up for sure! Lol and I so want to try it.

Just made this on Sunday for my daughters1st birthday. It was a winter “one”derland party. Everyone loved the hot cocoa bar.

    • Lina (Hip's Modern Martha)

Oh that’s cute! Thanks for sharing

    • Tiffany

What a sweet and unique idea. Love it!

    • Tammy

It only makes about 8 cups of liquid so that would only be @ 3 oz per child. I would at least double it.

    • Amy P

I’d talk to the teacher first/make sure they drink it shortly before going home! I couldn’t imagine 20 kindergarteners hopped up on this…then the sugar crash after. 😄🙈

  14. Laura

You can use white chocolate chips for white hot chocolate as a variation. Trust me when I say it’s delicious!

My phone couldn’t find any images. Could not pin it. 🙁
