Warm-up on a chilly day with a cup of rich Crockpot hot chocolate!

Turning a bag of chocolate chips into a deliciously creamy hot chocolate drink for the family to enjoy on a chilly day is super easy and convenient when you use your slow cooker to whip some up! There’s no powder mix involved in this easy homemade process either.

The best part is your delicious chocolate will stay nice and warm in the slow cooker for when you’re ready to serve it! Crockpot hot chocolate would be a wonderful activity to add to your Christmas bucket list! You could even design a whole evening around creating a festive hot chocolate bar with toppings and have a fun Christmas movie night at home as a family activity.

Curious about these pretty stoneware mugs I’m using? They are Hearth & Hand from Target.com, and I love them so much!

Get ready to dish up the BEST Crockpot hot chocolate!

We love this recipe so much, as it makes such smooth and velvety hot cocoa. My daughter’s 1st grade teacher made it for the class one year and gave me the recipe. It sure does remind me of when my kids were younger. Enjoy!

Here’s what my teammate Jenna had to say after making this hot chocolate:

This was fun to make and the perfect time of year for it! I have made other slow cooker hot cocoa recipes and they never turned out as awesome as this one — it’s easy to follow and tastes so great! I did find that whisking the hot cocoa a few times really helped to incorporate the chocolate into the milk before serving. I especially love that it can be refrigerated and it heats up beautifully the next day!

My simple crockpot recipe is pretty amazing–jar of nutella, bag of chocolate chips and milk. Seriously…it’s delicous and easy. Even better with a cup of salted caramel Baileys in it.

I know this might sound crazy but my grandmother used to add a little bit of butter to her homemade hot chocolate. She wouldn’t put it in the main pot, but would add a thin slab to everyone’s cup after she ladled it out. It made it extra rich and cut the sweetness. It was so good! So if you are already indulging, give it a try-you might be surprised.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I can see that! Thanks for sharing!

How big should the slow cooker be? I don’t own one and would like to do this recipe

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

I have a 6 quart Crock-Pot and it fit nicely. I would say around that size.

I used this recipe for the first time for my Girl Scouts Holiday party. I have 8 girls in my troop and this was gone in a few minutes. It was truly one of the best hot chocolates I’ve ever made and had. Thank you!

YAY!!! That is so awesome. Thanks for sharing!

I really like this idea because it is a good sharing drink for adults and kids. A lot easier to do this than individual mugs. Thank you. Will definitely save this page to use in the future.
