Make taco night exciting again!

Skip the usual taco shell and opt for square wonton wrappers from the grocery store instead. It creates a cheesy crunchy wonton cup appetizer or meal that’s unique looking and fun to eat. The best part is you can garnish your taco wontons with all the taco-related toppings your family enjoys such as sour cream, olives, and chives.

Wonton cup appetizers are incredibly easy and versatile!

You can choose various meat and cheese filling options such as taco meat, buffalo chicken, or pizza cups. They are a great game day option to share with a crowd.

My kids are now teens, but when they were younger I used to make the taco wonton cups regularly and they were always a hit! It’s something the kids can help make at home, and requires just a few easy ingredients! Wonton tacos look fancy, yet are so simple to bake.

More tips for making the best crunchy wonton taco cups:

  • Be sure to prep your muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray. I actually have and love a Caraway muffin pan. With this bakeware, you don’t need any spray or greasing, as the food slides right out.
  • The wonton wrappers are usually located in the refrigerator section by the yogurt. or in the produce department.
  • Use this for food prep for the week! These little portable tacos are great reheated. They can be baked and then stored in a container with a lid for up to five days. Try reheating in the air fryer to keep the wonton wrapper crispy.

Consider doubling the recipe for a larger crowd, because these are so popular. It’s a fun and unique way of jazzing up taco night. I cannot wait to make buffalo chicken wonton cups as another variation soon. I think leftover bbq pork would be yummy too.
