We bought this bed for our sunroom which we use as an occasional guest bedroom and it fits very well in such a small space. This bed works well as a guest bed and if our guests prefer a softer mattress, we bought a memory foam mattress pad to put on top. All-in-all a great, space-saving piece!”

– Carlin ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I recommend it to anyone that needs a bed, closet, and working area all in one. This is so perfect for a small room that can’t fit many items.”

Love not having a footboard and this bed is comfortable for my tall boyfriend. Plus, it’s easier to make the bed. It has been very sturdy and not squeaky at all (we weigh 135 and 240lb and the mattress is 110lb).”

I have an Ikea bed that I haven’t had any major issues with. Truthfully, I’ve had it so long at this point they don’t even make it anymore. The only problem I’ve had is a wooden slat split in half on a knot. I was able to purchase a set that someone returned pretty inexpensively.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh cool! Good to know how well yours has held up through the years, Casey! Thanks a ton for sharing with us!

  2. Heather

Our son has the Malm which is great, but the drawers you can purchase for under the bed fell apart. Thankfully IKEA has a great return policy so we returned the drawers, and kept the bed. Our daughter has had 3 of their beds. Different room sizes so we had to make changes each move. She’s has the Brimnes for 2 years now and loves it. It has 2 drawers and slides from a twin to a king which is great when she has friends over!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

How neat! Thanks for letting us know how their beds have worked out for your family!

  3. Kae

We’ve had a few different IKEA beds over the last 10 years and have been super happy with them. Our 4 and 2 yo boys share the KURA bed that we have made into bunk beds and I love how it looks. We modified it some but if you look on Pinterest there are tons of ideas to make it look more modern. We built ours without the panels.

  4. Amy ^_^

Got the KURA for my 3yr old this year! There is so many ways to decorate it! SoOoo many options online. We’ve had it for three months and no problems so far Recommend getting the mattress elsewhere. 🙂 We got this one from Amazon: LUCID 5 Inch Gel Memory Foam Mattress – Dual-Layered – CertiPUR-US Certified – Firm Feel – Twin Size. There is 3 Inch but read that it’s not enough thickness for kids in the long run.

  5. CeeLee

No love for Gjora and Bjorksnas?! They’re definitely their best looking beds. Both solid light wood, made out of round dowels, and both lovely! I have the Bjorksnas and I love it. It’s super sturdy, and great design.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh awesome! Thanks so much for the suggestion, CeeLee! Good to know which have been your favorite!

  6. Sara

We had the Kura for my son when he was little, and we loved it! The tent thing was blue with stars and he had space themed bedding and called it his Buzz Lightyear bed.

But he outgrew it by about 10 years old, so now he has the Hemnes which is very nice looking and the storage drawers are very useful.

  7. Sara

Do they make a full size loft bed that doesn’t have a metal frame or built-ins? I want to put my own stuff under it.

    • Ella

They have one called the Stora. It is wood, but only comes in a black finish. It is very tall, but a lot of the people who review it have said they cut down the legs to the size they need.

  8. Lucy

I’ve been looking at an IKEA bed and all these positive comments make me feel better about choosing to purchase it!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      Glad to hear, Lucy!

  9. Dottie

We have the Minnen bed for our girl. It is low to the ground, so not the best for a teen. Her room had weird dimensions so the bed set between toddler/twin length allowed for another layout in the room. Also the skub zippered storage bins fit beautifully underneath.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for letting us know about the Minnen bed, Dottie!

  10. Dee

We have the queen size Brimnes storage bed with bookcase headboard and it’s fantastic! We paired it with a Zinus mattress we saw on sale (thanks to Hip2Save!) and it’s been a huge space saver while also feeling very sturdy for a budget bed.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Wow! That’s good to know! And, I own a Zinus mattress we posted and LOVE it! Thanks, Dee!

  11. E

We spent way too much time (and money of course) at ikea this summer. We didn’t get beds this year, though. My daughter fell in love with the animal tent for the top of the Kura bed. I’m sure she is going to request that next year, even though she won’t need a new bed. My sons will get bunk beds next year when the toddler outgrows his crib. Ikea had an awesome looking metal bunk bed with optional trundle bed (perfect for a guest) that I liked. Can’t remember the name now!

  12. Shannon

We recently bought the BRIMNES queen storage bed and headboard and it is nothing less than AMAZING! The drawers are HUGE!!!! We also have an extremely heavy oversized hybrid mattress and it fits perfectly. We bought the basic slats and have had zero issues.

  13. Jen

We got the Hemnes daybed for my daughter. Love the two drawers underneath, they are really deep. Also the entire bed is solid wood-no particle board or pressed wood like some IKEA furniture.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for letting us know about the Hemnes daybed! Glad to hear how nice it is, Jen!

  14. Laura

I have been eyeing the STUVA loft bed for my 5 year old. Any suggestions? Does anyone have this for such a young child? Thanks!

    • Stacie

I have the STUVA loft bed for my almost 10 year old. It is pretty high, up in the air and I honestly wouldn’t reccommend it for a 5 year old. Maybe for kids 8+. You should look into the KURA Reversible Bed. It can be made into a mini loft bed and then you can have a cool little hangout underneath it. That is the bed we transitioned my son from. 🙂

      • Laura

Thanks Stacie. I will look into that one!

  15. patricialavenz-goff

I grew up with the storage beds in Germany. I loved them. I miss them. Might have to get some for the kids. they were great to store all the sheets and blankets in for that bed. Just awesome. Had the benches in the kitchen that I kept all my kitchen towels in too. Loved them. Sadly my bed is over a hundred years old and I don’t want to replace it but they would be great for the grand kids rooms. We didn’t have IKEA in Germany when I was young but most of the stores carried these beds. So glad they finally made it here.

  16. Jessica Johnson

I got a STUVA loft bed for my 9 year old this summer. Even with 12 foot ceilings, it overpowers her small room. Still we’re happy with it because she has so much stuff and needed a desk, too. But it looks a lot smaller in the IKEA showroom and in pictures than it does in a tiny bedroom!

  17. mamasweetpea

wow. the malm bed looks great. I like how the storage is the whole bottom of the bed since the bed lifts up instead of having drawers. this works better for us as we have a twin loft, and this can be easily put underneath without a challenge to get to side drawers. thanks.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      Oh perfect! You’re so welcome!

  18. Laura villotta

These beds look so cheap and not made well. For my daughters we got a plain headboard and footboard and painted them to match their rooms. Attached a twin frame and bought really nice mattresses for much much less.
