Have you used Kroger’s grocery pickup service yet?

Many retailers began offering curbside pickup during the coronavirus pandemic, and we’ve become especially big fans of this grocery shopping method at Kroger. Previously called “Kroger Clicklist,” Kroger Grocery Pickup is one of the few curbside services at major retailers that will allow you to use your paper coupons, so you’ll save both time and money!

One thing to keep in mind is that Kroger’s new weekly ad goes live every Wednesday and your pickup order’s pricing is finalized when you pick up your order, not when you place it. So if you place an order on Tuesday for pickup on Wednesday, make sure that you’re shopping the sales from the following week’s flyer for the lowest prices.

Here are some of the best deals to add to your Kroger Grocery Pickup order this week!

New to Kroger Grocery Pickup?

If you’ve ever used a service like Instacart for grocery pickup, you know that you may pay more for your groceries due to markups. With Kroger Grocery Pickup, every item is priced the same whether you place your order online or shop inside the store. Plus, grocery pickup is FREE on orders of $35 or more, and Kroger store employees do not accept tips, so it truly won’t cost you a penny more to shop this way! 🙌

Kroger Grocery Pickup also accepts SNAP benefits, so you can pay with an EBT card right from your car.

How does Kroger Grocery Pickup work?

  1. Choose your preferred store location on or in the Kroger app.
  2. Select your items and clip any applicable digital coupons. Note that Kroger’s digital coupons won’t be deducted from your total until you pick up your groceries.
  3. Choose a pickup date and a payment method at checkout.
  4. A Kroger associate will fulfill your order. If one of the items you ordered is out of stock, they will replace it with a similar or better product for the original (or lower) price.
  5. When it’s time to pick up your groceries, use the app to let the store know you’re on your way, and pull into one of the store’s designated pickup spots.
  6. Check-in on the app or call the number on the sign to let an associate know you’ve arrived.
  7. An associate will bring your order out, give you a chance to approve or decline their substitutions, and load your groceries into your car.
  8. At this time, you can hand over any paper coupons you have. The associate will take the coupons into the store, scan them, and come back with a revised receipt.
  9. If you’re paying with an EBT card, you’ll complete your transaction via a mobile point-of-sale system.

Note that this process is the same for other Kroger affiliates, including Fred Meyer, Ralph’s, and Smith’s.

Be sure to print these HOT coupons while they’re still available!

Fyi, if u use snap to pay for food items you don’t get a physical receipt. Otherwise I love this service

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      Thanks for the helpful warning!

      • eas

My Kroger stopped giving receipts about 7 months ago. Super frustrating. They tell me you can jsut get them online, but Ibotta won’t accept those and their online system doesn’t work 99% of the time to get them.

        • AnelM

I feel your pain. I have started to email their help desk stating this issue.

        • Kellie

Request one when you can with your spot number! They can provide one before they process it thru so you have to be quick. Sometimes they still forget to bring it, but they have the ability

          • Suzanne H

I have tried requesting them but they always tell me to use the app which NEVER works.

        • Pam

So ibotta won’t accept Kroger, but they accept Walmart Pickup. Is that correct?

      • shopper1024

Like others have said, I love Kroger pick up. However, I completely agree with others (and stopped using it) simply because they will not provide a paper receipt, even when I request it. I have printed them from my account and from the app, but none of the shopping apps will accept it because it does not print with all the information that is on a normal receipt.

    • Winwood40

Your receipt is available on the App. Open the App, click on the 3 lines upper right corner, select my purchases, select the one you want, then click receipt in the upper right corner.

      • Jill

Thanks for this info. I wish I could somehow move the pdf straight to ibotta. Right now, I have to print the receipt out…using lots of paper.

        • mommyof51987

I just scan the receipt in ibotta and fetch on my computer screen. I do this with my scan and go receipts from Sam’s club too.

        • Lisa

Jill, you can tell it when you print it to save it to a PDF file on your computer. I know, I know, still an extra step, but it’s worth saving ink/paper. If you don’t know how to do it, YouTube is your friend (really).

    • Jeangirl

At my Kroger, when I get there and call to let them know my spot number, I also ask for a paper receipt at the same time. Maybe they will do it for you too???

  2. Holly G.

Absolutely love this post. Hopefully these become a regular thing. Great job on the matchups. I love saving money with you guys.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks a ton for the feedback! I’ll be sure to pass this along!

  3. Jackie

Also my Kroger/Dillons has a minimum order of $35. Not sure if all are the same but if they are remember to keep your order $35 or more. But with grocery prices so high right now that shouldn’t be an issue 🙄. I spend that on like two gallons of milk, cheese and bread 🥴

  4. Stacy

Kroger employees do accept tips in my area. Chick-fil-A is the only company whose employees has refused my tip for curbside.

    • chesca

Thats so kind and thoughtful of you to tip the people who bring your stuff out to your car. I do as well, but im not sure how many people actually do as they usually look surprised. The Dunkin Donuts in my area is the only store i know of that absolutely does not accept any tips. Whether inside, at the drive thru or curbside

    • blu

Why tip? They are just doing their job they are getting paid to do. Americans!!!

  5. tracey

Keep the Kroger deals coming! Love when these get posted.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yay! Thanks for the request, Tracey! We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for more Kroger deals!

  6. Mel82

I didn’t know you could use paper coupons for pick up. This is a game changer for me! Thank you for sharing!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome! Happy shopping!

    • Winwood40

I have worked for Kroger for 34 years. Clicklist or Pickup is my current department. The attendants take paper coupons at carside. They should be asking for them every time they approach you.

  7. JD827

My daughter uses Kroger pickup and loves it. She leaves detailed notes about what she wants and what she will accept as a substitute. She says the workers try very hard to get you what you want and always tell her that the details help them.

  8. everybodyluvsmonkeys

I love Kroger pickup. I am picking up an order today after work and before I pick up the kids from school. Very convenient for busy moms! But every once in a while I like to go in an browse the clearance section and the seasonal section myself.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I’m so glad Kroger pickup has been so great for you! Thank you!

  9. Alysa

I prefer kroger pickup over instacart because the employees are actually trained in how to choose good produce and they want to keep you as a customer. With instacart, a third party picks your order and they’ve always seemed to care less about picking good produce because they would rather complete more orders overall to increase personal profit.

  10. Stella

Here in CA, Ralph’s, a subsidiary of Kroger, has been my go to store even before the pandemic. Their curbside pick up is the only way to go for me and my husband. They do have a minimum $35 order for free pick up otherwise, it’s a fee of $ 6.95. I should mention they also have a very generous substitution policy which is a welcome relief when “hard to find” items crop up. This service has been a real life saver during these trying times.

  11. Tonya S

Great matchups. Just a warning, I used this service and was charged $65 more than my total said when I placed the order. It took 3 weeks and 3 in store visits to get the money refunded. Check your credit card!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Thank you so much for the warning, Tonya S! I’m so sorry it took that long to get fixed.

    • Tati

I am amazed at how many comments on postive experiences there are. I have never had good luck with the North Augusta, SC Kroger. They don’t even let you know substitutes or ask if you have any coupons or anything at this location. I have to ask while they are loading me up if there were substitutes. Unfourtunately, Kroger carries a handful of products that other stores around me do not so when we run out of them, I have to do a grocery pickup there. I have never seen the same pickup employee more than once, always someone new. Granted I only do an order every other month or so but I still think that is a high turnover rate. They have no system set up where they seperate the substitued items so if you don’t want them, they can easily be found and taken out. I literally LOATHE having to go there. They have switched to 1/2 all U-Scan in-store and 1/2 registers but will only have 2 cashier lanes open. I wish we were as lucky as you all on the quality of service. I would love to know what that feels like at Kroger.

  12. xoxos

Is food4less still an affiliate? That’s the only kind of Kroger company I have near me, and unfortunately, it doesn’t look like they offer pickup.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I do see Food4Less listed as an affiliate, but they may not offer pickup.

  13. Jean

I always ask them for a paper receipt when I call to let them know I’m here:) That way I can submit to Ibotta…

    • eas

Mine flat out refuses and says they are “unable to print paper receipts.” lol at them lying.

      • 3Peas

Not all stores have the same system. Doubtful they are lying over a tiny piece of paper… Just sayin.

  14. Pam

Kroger pick up at my local is horrible. Half the items are always unavailable or substituted. It defeats saving time when I have to go to another store to complete my shopping. It may be worth it if you don’t care about getting specific items and quality but it is a waste of time in my opinion.

    • Mima

That has been my experience too. They put my mandarin oranges (Cuties/Halos) in a bag with my canned goods and turned them to mush. Poor substitutions. Doesnt look like they read the notes. I’d rather go in store and pick out stuff myself.

      • Sarah

My Kroger store in UT is horrible about substitutions. Every time I go I get two pages of items that were not substituted. What kills me is that they aren’t even hard items. On an order I placed last week ketchup and mustard were not substituted. Are you trying to tell me there is no ketchup or mustard in the store? I don’t think so. If I end up having to go to the store to get basics it isn’t that much of a time saver.

  15. Jenny

FYI for all you super savers, there will be a pending charge for your grocery total on your account that is higher than what you will actually pay. Give it a day and it sorts itself out to the amount you actually paid after sale prices, special 2for1 deals, buy five get $1 off, coupons, etc. I love Kroger Pickup. There have been a few hiccups here and there… but overall a very positive experience.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks a bunch for the helpful warning, Jenny! Good to know!

  16. Sam

We started using this service last year in March. I left this 3 months ago. They raised the prices of Horizon organic milk. I used to be 6.99 and now 8.79.
Plus, when you pick up the order you don’t get all the items. Many items are out of stock . You only get to when you go for pick up. This is so frustrating. Then don’t call you or msg you for the substitute.
I liked that they accept coupons when you pickup the order but I faced problem 4-5 times. I gave them coupon and they took from me but the actually didn’t detected on my receipt.
Now, I’m using Target Shipit. The shoppers are good and they msg you if the item is out of stock and ask you for the substitute. And also send the pictures so we can choose.

    • Suzanne H

It’s odd they don’t ask you for subs; I get a text with a link letting me know which items are OOS and they give me options for a substitute.

      • LauraK

Yes, I also get a text, explaining the substituted items/out of stock items. I reply to let them know if it’s ok to make changes or just cancel those items. ALSO, you are charged the current prices for items on the day you pick up!! So, if the ad prices have changed between when you order and when you pick up, you will see a difference in the overall charge.

  17. Darla

I’m going to try it because now except for two lanes, all of the checkouts are self-serve checkout! I HATE to self-checkout when I have a lot especially produce! The employee said that it was because they can’t find anybody to work there. What??!!

    • Kelly

Why work when you can get unemployment for doing nothing.🤷‍♀️

  18. Susie

I have been doing Kroger pickup for a few months now, and except for 1 single item, everything in my order is correct every time. If they are out of stock, I get a text with a link to review substitute items and accept or reject them before I even go to pick up. They also pick great produce…I have been so impressed! If you order a day or more ahead of time, you can edit your order as much as you want up until midnight the day before your pickup. I love this feature because I constantly add and remove items lol

  19. Bev84

If you have a food4less, they have a 5x event so you can buy up to five boxes of the koolaid pouches for .99 cents. Make sure to clip the coupon.

  20. Evie

If I have to pick it up, I can just go inside and do my own shopping.
A lot of times you don’t even get a discount unless you pick up or have it delivered! It is just me, I do not need their service!
I also hate it when stores are tooo lazy to fix their register printers and I get a blurry receipt!
They all need to do a much better job of keeping items in stock or don’t make promises.

  21. TravelSuz

I love my Kroger pickup here in North Texas! Great friendly employees, and I always get a text when something is out of stock. I get receipts and they take my paper coupons. I also tip, my Kroger seems to be extremely busy.

  22. Suzanne H

I have a love/hate relationship with Kroger pick up. It is SO convenient; I’ve been using it since before the pandemic but the results definitely vary depending upon the shopper. I have received already rotten apples the last 3 times I ordered! So frustrating b/c I am intentionally avoiding going to the store – that’s the whole point! Also, the bagging practices are so awful – I frequently get loose items put in the back of my car or 1 item in a giant bag then an extraordinarily heavy bag that is overloaded. I suspect it has to do with how many items you purchase out of a certain section but I’m not sure. Also, the digital coupons don’t always apply. That said, it does save me so much time and exposure (my husband is high risk so we are overly cautious) and I love that it is currently free unlike many of other other services and they refuse tips here. I figure we are all just doing the best we can these days so I just let it go when things are kind of nuts!

  23. truckinjill

Thank you for posting all the info. I haven’t done a Fred Meyer pick up in a while because I thought they were still charging the $4.95 no matter what the total was. This will be helpful since they have a lack of cashiers. It’s so hard to check out your own basket full of groceries. Jill

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      You’re very welcome!

  24. Rachel

I used Kroger pickup on Monday, and the store refused to give me a receipt. Said it wasn’t possible. I asked the person loading the groceries in my car and inside at customer service. Then Ibotta told me I was submitting a fraudulent receipt when I tried to print the receipt from my account. WHY CAN’T THEY JUST GIVE ME A RECEIPT?

  25. Pamela

I love the Kroger pickup! I’m my area the Kroger affiliate store is Smiths. I have a son with autism and in store shopping with him is not possible any more. I used to use the service before Covid, and now without the fee, I use it even more. They are always super nice, pick excellent produce, bag well, and are fast. This service makes my life easier.

  26. Jacy

Thanks H2S!! Smith’s Grocery pick-up definitely can be awesome. One thing to remember though….. if you are doing “Buy 5, save $5” deals, and they end up not having something, you do not get the discounted price on the other things. Make sense? I learned this the hard way 😉

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome, Jacy! Thanks for the warning!

    • Susie

Yes! I usually try to get at least 6 or 7 things just in case. I do like that it’s $5 off 5 or more things instead of having to do multiples of 5 😊

  27. IrishND98

My Kroger used to do paper receipts if requested. My last two pickups they said the printers were removed from the pickup area and they could no longer provide

  28. Chrissy Goff

You also do not get catlina’s when you order pick up. I learned that the hard way and lost almost $10.

  29. Mzannn

I was trying to use this service, but the sales price in the ad for my store isn’t showing up when I add to cart. Is this normal?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hmm, I wonder if it may vary by location? Maybe wait a bit and try again or switch to a different browser. Hoping this is helpful!

  30. Susie

Yes! I usually try to get at least 6 or 7 things just in case. I do like that it’s $5 off 5 or more things instead of having to do multiples of 5 😊
