Here are 8 reasons why we love Walmart Grocery Pickup:

free Walmart grocery signs

1. It’s a completely FREE service.

That’s right – NO service fees and NO markups with Walmart Grocery Pickup! You’ll pay the same prices you would if you shopped in-store and you can even shop select Rollback and Clearance items!

Just look for the red Rollback banner or the word “clearance” listed in the title while shopping.

2. You’ll save time AND money.

Walmart Grocery Pickup is a lifesaver for busy parents! Just use the free Walmart Grocery App to shop anywhere (in bed, at home, on your lunch break, in the carpool lane, etc). Pick a time that works best for you and a Walmart employee will prepare your order so you can pick it up when it’s ready!

Note that a $30 minimum order is required and you can’t use coupons or gift cards.

3. Walmart Grocery Pickup is for more than just food.

If you’re in need of a baby shower gift, school or office supplies, paint supplies, pet food, or even toys, you can purchase all of those items on Walmart Grocery! You can even buy an Instant Pot, vacuum cleaner, or an all-in-one printer – without having to go inside the store.

4. Get the items you requested… or better.

If an item’s price changes between the time you place your order and the day your order is packed, you’ll be charged the lower price! Also you can choose to allow substitutions in your order, which will be made by the Walmart associate preparing your order. If an item you requested is sold out, they will substitute a similar item and you’ll pay the original price, even if the substituted item costs more.

5. Avoid impulse purchases.

Running in-store to grab a few items can quickly escalate into a free-for-all, stuff-your-cart kind of situation! With Walmart Grocery Pickup, you’re less likely to make impulse buys, so you won’t be tempted to buy those candy bars at checkout or toys that the kids see while walking the aisles.

6. Oops. Forget something? No worries!

Forget to add toilet paper, paper towels, milk, bananas, or another item to your grocery order? With some exceptions, you can add or remove items (and even change the time/date for your order) until the day before your scheduled delivery/pickup order.

If you sign into your Walmart Grocery account and select ‘My Orders’, you can see the exact cutoff time for submitting changes.

7. No need to get dressed or wake the kids!

Waking up grumpy toddlers to haul them into a store is THE WORST! Once your Walmart Grocery Pickup order is ready, you can drive up in your pajamas or with a car full of sleeping kiddos, and an employee will load your groceries into your car! You don’t even have to get out of your car AT ALL!

NOTE – Tips cannot be accepted, but a “thank you” and a smile are always welcome. 😀

Order with Walmart Grocery Delivery and get freebies

8. Possibly get free gifts.

If you’re a new Walmart Grocery customer, don’t be surprised if you receive a free goody bag while picking up your order! Several readers and friends have received a tote bag filled with samples or other freebies, which is always an added perk. Who doesn’t love free stuff?!

Are there any codes for those of us who are not new customers?

    • Tricia

I was wondering that too. I have spend thousands so far on Walmart grocery pickup. Would be nice to offer us a $10 code once in awhile.

    • AT

The DELIVERY code can be used more than once…I’m on my 4th. NOTE: The minimum order amount is higher $50 instead of $30 though. I do tip the delivery driver so TECHNICALLY I’m spending more for the delivery service vs. pickup BUT I find myself sitting in the parking lot for upwards of 20 minutes sometimes until my order is brought out so the time savings and convenience is worth it to me. 🙂

    • jenny

You can make multiple email addresses…

    • A

You can use the DROP App every time you order Walmart grocery pick up, and earn $3 each time. It adds up! If you want to join and use my code: apn8f, we both get $5. After a few months, I had enough for a $50 Amazon gift card just for my regular Walmart orders. Hope this helps!

  2. Angela

Tricia that’s what I was thinking
I don’t need a bag of samples but a coupon via email or em text or the app would be nice once in awhile

    • Tricia

Lol I said the same thing to my husband last time we got a bag of expired candy in our order 🤣

  3. Mel

For those asking about discount codes for existing customers: remember Walmart does NOT charge for this service, most other places do. I’m just happy they continue to offer this with no charge. Also, substitutions are always worth more then you actually pay. It’s an awesome service, and one thing Walmart does really well.

    • Tricia

Still doesn’t mean they can’t offer a code to loyal customers once in awhile. They may not charge for the service but they still are getting our money. Giving a $10 code a few times a year when you spend $300 plus a month isn’t alot for a billion dollar company.

      • Gramma C

That is how it works though. They offer a service and you pay for it. Why does everyone today think all these stores OWE customers constant coupons and deals?

        • Tricia

Nobody said we were OWED anything but incentives like that is what keeps customers coming. It’s good business. You can’t tell me if two places offered the same service but one gave $10 off or other incentives that you wouldn’t choose that service to save money? You’re on hip2save which is a deal site lol

    • rochellemcgee

There are cheaper places to shop, so I am throwing money at Walmart that I wouldn’t necessarily do otherwise. AND I don’t know how everyone else’s pickup service has been going lately, but ours expanded so rapidly, they cannot keep up with the orders and my husband and I have had some excruciating waits (upwards of 45 mins) for my pickup orders. I used to be a huge cheerleader of Walmart pickup, but now I feel like I’m playing roulette with my time every time I order.

      • Colorado Amy

I can’t even place a pickup order now because there are never any available time slots for the week ahead. The app doesn’t go out any further than a week. I’m guessing so many people are using it. Everyday I get on to see if there are any open slots and there aren’t. I’ve been reading that Walmart is hiring so hopefully this will get better.

  4. Lisa

I will never use their service again. They double charged our account twice and not talking $5-10 no it was more like $300 each time. And both times as I was checking out they threw some kinda fee on there because the total was never the same as what they charged my card. Last time they did it they didn’t want to give us our money. And another issue I don’t like is when they charge your account for an item you don’t receive and you have to email them about it just to get your money. I wish I had better luck with the service like most.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! SO very sorry to hear about this, Lisa. Thanks for letting us know about your experience. I haven’t had any issues with the Grocery Pickup service at my store. Do you have another nearby location you could order from? If so, hoping it might work more smoothly for you at a new location.

  5. JoAnne

I have had great experiences with this service. The one time my husband picked up the order and it turned out an item was missing, I was told to call the 1-800 number and had great customer service. They apologized, credited my card right away and sent me a code for $10 off my next $30 order and it only took a few minutes.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

That’s awesome, JoAnne! I have had great experiences with this service at my Walmart too! Thanks for taking the time to comment!

  6. Margaret

I have had good service-very convenient so far (probably ordered 6 times)

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

SO happy to hear that, Margaret! Thanks for letting us know what you think of it so far!

  7. Lisa

Advice please. I just ordered for the first time for pickup, so a new customer. I can only utilize ONE of the 10 off 50 codes for new customers, is that correct? Boy, this is an “interesting” experience for me. 🙂

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yes. That’s correct. You can only use a new customer offer on your first purchase order. Hope you love this service as much as I do, Lisa!

  8. Steph

Decided to give them a try. Groceries were supposed to be ready hours ago. Got a delayed message when I was on my way. Now several hours later, no update. Lol. Not a good first impression.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! I’m so sorry to hear about that, Steph. Hoping your next order may go more smoothly for you. If not, I wonder if there might be another nearby location you can order from. I do have a couple locations near me. Hoping this helps!

  9. Michele Lambert

Target has the best drive up I’ve ever tried. I go to Walmart locally but tried Target at my sisters. Excellent service, NO MINIMUM or fees, very high quality. Walmart could learn from them.

  10. julie

so , what is the code “word” or will it pop up automatically

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Julie! Here are the current offer codes –
DELIVERY – Free home delivery on $50 order, up to $9.95 value (exp. 1/31/21)
WOWFRESH – $10 off first $50 order (new customers; limited time)
SAVETIME – $10 off first $50 order (new customers; exp. 1/31/21)

  11. Marie

Not sure how it has been for any of you, but every single walmart within a 50mi radius of me (NE OH) has no pick up available. I placed an order last Friday and the first available pick up date was the following Wed. They canceled my order today saying it couldn’t be fulfilled and they won’t let you do any more orders. Thanks Walmart!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

DARN! I’ve had a hard time locking in a pick up order too, Marie. For my store it seems they only have time slots available for the following day. Maybe check again in the evening, to possibly schedule for an early morning pick up. Hoping it opens up for you again at your store!

  12. Amy

Do you give a tip when you do grocery pickup?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Amy! They cannot accept tips.

    • momof4spoiled1s

Walmart will ask you if you want to tip the driver next time you log on to your grocery account. It will keep coming up until you tip something or nothing. Just an FYI. They do accept tips.

      • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh interesting! I haven’t seen that yet!

  13. Juliee

I love, love, love, grocery pickup and have always had such great service. It is such a game changer for groceries! Saves me HOURS of my life throughout each month. I don’t know where everyone lives, but my state is on shelter in place, only essential businesses and medical are allowed to go anywhere except grocery store. Covid is racing through our state and the grocery employees are on the front line, trying to keep up and placing themselves at risk every shift. The grocery pickup at Walmart is obviously slammed right now, don’t let a long wait right now convince you. And pleeeeease be kind and patient with store employees, none of them ever expected their line of work would wind up being a potentially life threatening line of work!!

  14. Lexy

Walmart has been offering this promo ever since they launched they pickup in stores- I’ve never been interested – grocery stores are getting slammed at the moment with pickups if their is numerous hiccups-I do not blame them

  15. E

How do the substitutions work? I know lots of items are not in stock as I just went to target to pick up a few things before our stay at home order. Say if I order coconut milk, and they don’t have any, will they sub out like almond milk instead? I have so many dietary restrictions right now and know exactly what brands/items I can eat, I’m more nervous about getting subbed out stuff I can’t eat than I am about going to the actual store! Or like if I order GM Cheerios and there aren’t any, would they just use their store brand? GM is gluten free but the store brands aren’t.
