THIRD UPDATE: Target posted the following in response to someone questioning the BOGO coupon on their Facebook page…

SECOND UPDATE: Before you head out, you may want to read through the comments below to learn about Hip2Saver’s most recent experiences.

UPDATE: After reading through the comments, it sounds like many of you are skeptical that this deal will actually work at your local Target. As I mentioned below, it worked just fine for me an hour or so ago as the cashier simply scans the Mobile Coupon barcode on your phone and the savings are applied automatically (the cashier does not have to key in any info). If you do indeed head out to test the deal, please share your success stories and/or any issues that you experienced below.

Wowza! Throw on your running shoes and sprint over to Target for a smokin’ HOT deal! If you are not yet signed up for Target Mobile offers, you’ll need to text OFFERS to 827438 (note that standard text messaging fees will apply) and click on the link that will be immediately texted back to you. Fill out the required info, follow the directions and you will receive a unique link for several Target Mobile coupons valid through October 4th – note that it took about 5 minutes for this text to arrive.

One of these Target Mobile coupons is valid for Buy One Accessory Item (sunglasses, jewelry or watch) and Get 1 Free up to a $58.99 value. And here’s the best part – clearance items do qualify and the higher priced item is the one that is ringing up FREE in the system. That means you can snag a FREE Accessory item (up to a $58.99 value!) when you purchase another accessory item on clearance – and yes, this makes for one *Smokin’ HOT* deal. Check out what I just scored at my Target here in Boise…

Buy 1 pair of Earrings $2.38
(note that clearance prices will vary but you should be able to find a similar deal)
Buy 1 Timex Watch $49.99
Use the Target Mobile coupon valid for Buy 1 Accessory Item Get 1 Free (cashier just needs to scan the barcode on your phone)

Final Cost $2.38 for both item!! Amazing!!!!

Come back and let us know what you are able to snag!

(A BIG thanks to reader, Sara, for emailing this deal!)

Let’s all stop pointing fingers and barking at each other about morals and ethics. Collin was only informing us of an awesome deal, glitch or not. This snafu is on Target, it is nobody’s fault. Everyone take a deep breath.

  2. Dayna

I would like to thank everybody for distracting me from work for the past 30 minutes. It has made the day move along! Thanks!!!

    • Kathleen

      Haha, love your attitude!

  3. Char

I keep getting a message “access denied” when trying to sign up for Target mobile coupons. I just now signed up on the internet for the Target mobile coupons. Then I texted for the offers and texted for help, and both were denied. Any one know why and what the resolve is? My texting works fine to send and receive to anyone else, so thats not the problem. Please someone help!!

    • Ashley57

I think they have disabled the coupon from going out.

      • Sandybebe

My husband works for Target, and yes it is disabled. The coupon was supposed to read buy 1 get 1 of equal or lesser value. So the coupon is no longer valid. SORRY

        • linda

i just did the deal in MI at 5:00 pm ..worked just fine

  4. Alyssa L

Thank you collin as my family is hurting this year and these will be great for my gift closet. I really appreciate everything you do! Dont listen to the haters!

    • Melendez

well said Alyssa, if your lucky to get it good if not dont hate. We win some and loose some. But thankfully I got a xmas gift like you said

  5. Leanne

THANK YOU Colin for all the hard work you put into this and the money you save us on a regular basis. I’m sorry about all the haters, but regardless of this whole issue, we are grateful for you, your team, and your website.

  6. Noelle

Just tried it in medford OR and at the register it said coupon not valid. I think corporate has changed it or voided the deal completely.

    • Caren

Thanks for the info. I’m in Medford too. 🙂

  7. Carrie

This deal did not work for me in Iowa. They called a manager over & they said they would do the deal on the lower priced item. 🙁 I had them take both items off. Bummer!

    • adam

Is there a possibility you would be willing to send your # under the bar-code, so I could try? Apparently I wasn’t signed up for mobile coupons. I’d be happy to send coupons or something else in return (I have multiple computers, so if you need more than 2 of a print). 616grr@ gmail.com

  8. Lindsay

I think the only “issue” here, is the one that makes this coupon an “oops” on the part of Target. That being said, I PERSONALLY would not do this deal (simply because I know that it is a glitch in the system). What one couponer does over another is their choice. I’m not angry at the world (or any of you) who took advantage of the deal nor am I rooting people on who decided it was the “wrong” thing to do. Just a few weeks ago I was able to print a coupon from Target’s website on ONE computer in which I got (no joke) about 18 prints. I knew it was a glitch but took advantage of the deal because it was a product that I would have only spent pennies on. My point being, we have ALL done it whether we have realized it or not. We have all been guilty of something. Let this go – we should all be coming together as a Hip2Save community and encouraging each other, not tearing each other apart.

    • Carrie

Lindsay, I agree. Well said! Happy Couponing!!

    • steph

You must be talking about the liquid soap target coupon for .50. It let me print more than 2 and that has never happened before. Agree with what you said about this “deal” also.

  9. Carrie

On another note, I love following your website, Collin! I am a stay at home mom and our family of 5 has saved so much from saving with coupons and online deals!! I have come across many great deals on your website, Keep up the great work!!!!

  10. Sharon

    Collin,
I just want you to know how grateful I am to you for all your hard work. Our family has been hit hard by not only the economy, but by cancer as well. If not for me saving money like crazy, I don’t know where we’d be. I know there are many sites for couponing out there but yours is always the one I go to – not only because you post awesome deals that help my family, but also because you are so up-beat and excited about couponing! There are many people posting nasty comments right now, and it may seem that they outnumber those of us who support you, but they do not!! You have helped my family. You have helped me take care of the people I love. For that, I am forever in your debt.

  11. Kathleen

All the rude comments on this post make me sad! I see this as a gray area. So many people have good points. It sounds like it was a company error and anyone who used the coupon did use the coupon exactly as stated, which we all know is the first step to ethical couponing. That being said, I personally would not feel comfortable using it. It isn’t up to me to determine someone else’s comfort level though!

This isn’t as simple as knowingly using the coupon for the wrong product or duplicating coupons not meant to be shared. It seems crystal clear to me that the people who used the coupon technically did nothing wrong until we were notified that it was an error by Target. So how anyone can say anything beyond the fact that THEY were not comfortable with the deal or that it didn’t feel right to THEM is beyond me. If more people worried about themselves instead of standing in judgment of others, the world would be a much better place.

Okay, stepping off my soapbox, leaving this negativity behind and going to focus on something else. Let’s move on to the next deal ladies!

Thanks Collin for this site and all you do!

  12. john

So many comments with hate about a deal being published. It’s a deal site. What do you expect? If you don’t like the deal, don’t do it. There’s no reason to hate others that do or post about it.

And for those that say by her posting this deal others couldn’t get it cause Target found out and stopped it. So in essence you’re saying only you should have been allowed to take advantage of the deal then?

Again it’s a deal site. Deals get posted. A perdue $3 off coupon was posted last week on lots of deal sites, which originally was just meant for those who signed up on facebook, so some of the original people that signed up on facebook missed out. Again … sharing a deal means it happens. Not everyone can take advantage of every single deal all the time.

Relax and breathe people and stop being so catty.

    • lineth

      well said

  13. Raquel

Thanks Collin! First store tried to change the price to the lower item so I just went to the next Target and got it just fine!

  14. Rachel

I went to try it and it took off the low cost one:-( o well

  15. Shannon

Worked for me just now. 3:30 cst. I purchased a necklace and a watch for $5.

  16. susan

Awesome deal I just got mine! Thanks

  17. Sophie

Hmmm….while I wouldn’t feel good about doing this deal, I don’t judge others who feel differently.

  18. Dee

Just worked for me in Houston, Texas! Thanks Collin!!!!

    • Dayna

Good to know! My mom was asking about this deal. I’ll go with her after work just in case today is the last day they might accept it. I wonder if all/majority of the stores in Houston are still accepting it or just certain ones

  19. Kimberly

well does any one no if there is a way to use a Ipod to get this coupon? Oh and Double Thanks Collin for all the deals 🙂

  20. KetaFerg

The deal worked for me I’m in the Nash, TN area and I got a necklace on clearance for $5.48 & watch priced at $44.99 for the $5.48+ tax!!

    • jack

is the deal on a specific brand watch or all of them under 58.99$

  21. Vicki

Target made an error on my receipt today. When I went back to have it corrected it was $20.00 in their favor. (Overcharged for the Velveeta microwave meals). Customer service claimed she had a problem with this yesterday. Obvious computer glitch on Target’s part. Were they going to contact me about their mistake?
I have also done deals receiving a gift card back after purchase and when I go to use gift card there is no balance. Did target contact me about this?
So you see, it goes both ways, probably against the shopper more often than not. Let she without sin cast the first stone. Otherwise stop bashing Colin. She Rocks!

    • Christa

      Well, Said!! Colin does rock!

    • des

This happened to me last time re:no balance on Target GC….so from now on, until I use the gift card I’m going to attach it to the receipt coz I guess we can dispute this. Above all, despite all these comments, I would like to thank Collin for all hard work she put on this. All of us knows how hard it is to cut coupons and make a list from scratch and Collin has taken the “dirty job” away from us. Pls. be considerate….we all have our own “moments” like this and we keep it to ourselves but Collin is just too thoughtful to share it with everybody…

  22. Sylvia

    https://business.time.com/2013/09/13/united-airlines-says-it-will-honor-mistake-fares/
    https://www.dailyfinance.com/2010/05/24/pricing-error-costs-zappos-1-6-million/

check these news! these are basically the same think we are discussing here. getting 5 dollar air ticket is way better deal than 49.99 watch, but UA admitted their mistake and honored the deal. I don’t see why this involves moral issue. will you not buy 5 dollar ticket when you see it online? just take today as your lucky day.

and for those you take moral high road, I admire you. But there is really no need to judge other people who want to get good deals.

    Thanks Collins by the way.

    • Alla

100% agree, Sylvia. Like I said earlier some get lucky today while others some other day. If it’s your day today good for you right? If not wait and you will get lucky too. It’s ok if Collin got it and if it was a glitch or whatsoever. She found a deal and shared it with us. There’s nothing wrong with it. Some people are just too jealous and some are so lost in their “ethics and morals” world. LOL….

  23. debbie

Hi Collin, just want to send you warm Aloha from the island of Kauai!

  24. SAMMY

Just worked for me in STL

  25. Samy

I agree with Lindsay. I don’t understand why Collin posted this on her blog even though it is glich in the system. She should have realized/thought about it even if a reader did this deal that this sounds to good to be a deal, must be a glich or not a proper way of couponing?

  26. T

Just worked in South Jersey 4:48pm. Got earrings ($2.38) and Ironman sunglasses for the DS ($19.99) worked like a charm.

  27. Jack L

I find it so funny that Collin has not had to make any comments on the subject, just let the readers take over…”like a BOSS!” Anyone want to take bets on if this will be a High or Low for the day? 🙂

    • tracy

i realized that. i wonder what the talk around the dinner table or pillow talk with the husband will be lol

    • Jodi

I seriously thought the same thing….LIKE A BOSS!

  28. Michelle

Off-topic but I have a RT burger coupon I won’t use today but I will happily send it to someone if you want a free dinner tonight. Just reply with your e-mail and I will send it your way.

  29. Sarah

Love your site Collin and all the hard work you do to help us save money!

  30. Hiro

I don’t know about other people, but I would do this deal if I live close to Target !!!
    I just love “Hip 2 Save” !!!
For me , couponing is “Win some, loose some”….

  31. uyanga

if someone can get more for less, good for them. is that what couponing?

  32. Daisy

C’mon Collin, you’re better than this. You know when an error is being exploited, encouraging others to partake in something we all know is wrong isn’t cool. It’s just going to make it harder to coupon at Target and that benefits no one.

  33. SUSANA

Hi ladies, I just got back from my Target store in Boynton Beach, FL. I got a CASIO watch for $49.99 and a earring for $2.38. I paid exactly $2.38. THANK YOU Collin, my son’s birthday is coming up in two weeks, I know he will love the watch. I LOVE HIP2SAVE!!!

  34. Sptrr999

This deal is dead. Corporate sent out an email to reject the coupon.

    • Janet

Just texted offers to target and received the coupon with the same wording as original so I will try!! Love Hip2save thank you Collin!!!

  35. Emily

Many deals are very unclear and difficult to figure out how it works. However, Collin helps out by going to the stores and/or online to try things. If it works and ends up being a great deal, she shares. She clearly tested the waters by getting the $2 watch and the expensive watch. It could’ve gone bad; however, it didn’t. It helped some of us from taking that step. She now confirmed the deal and shared with us. She does this with other deals and I appreciate this.

  36. Jane

I too think this is a great website and Collin you are an amazing woman!! That being said, I think as someone who runs a blog and influences so many people I personally would think you’d not post things like this. It’s obviously a mistake on Target’s part and it is their fault I agree. BUT what happens when hundreds and hundreds of people do this deal because you said it was ok to do….Target loses a TON of money. When Target loses a TON of money what happens? They start raising prices or start changing the way they do their coupons. Even though it’s their mistake, is it really an ethical thing to do when you KNOW that’s not the way they intended the coupon to be used. Please don’t take this as I’m trying to be mean or rude because I’m not. This is just my opinion. I think we need to stop and think about the repercussions of our actions as couponers and not just about getting what we want, when we want it.
    Thanks for listening 🙂

    • Emily

I am not convinced. I worked as a cashier last Christmas, do you know how many people told me that they went in for toothpaste and now look at their full carts. Now imagine all of these thousands of people going in to get this deal. Score for Target!

    • thecents2save

Yes. This deal was posted on countless blogs and also slickdeals. Let’s imagine 5000 people did the deal (that’s only 100 people per state), then it’s a $300,000 loss to Target. Where do you think they will pass along that loss to? Yup, to us — the very people trying to SAVE money. I have read the comments and I realize people are going to argue the semantics about the coupon verbiage not stating “equal or lesser value” and you are indeed correct, but as other have pointed out, it’s exploitative.

I challenge anyone that doesn’t think there is anything wrong with this deal, to march into your local Target and request to do this deal with the store manager ringing you up. If you absolutely think there is nothing wrong with it, and that the coupon verbiage backs you up, then you will have no issues justifying your coupon usage to the store manager when they undoubtedly question the transaction. 😉

      • Lisa

        Good points!!

        • J

$300,000 loss..PLEASE!! Target probably paid $2.00 for a case of watches and marked them up to $50 each! Let it go! How many couponers get things for free or close to free. There’s never an issue when Collin posts items people can get for free..I’m sure you didn’t think about the store’s loss on that item. It is what it is…like I said LET IT GO!
And..there’s no coupon rule that says you have to ring up with the store manager..so no one needs to do that!

          • Elise

I just never get it when people say, “they buy this stuff for nothing and mark it up 500%”. Do you have any sense of how retail works? Target may have paid $2 for a case of watches (unlikely…retail markup is about 100%, but that depends on industry/product. In general, Target probably paid $25 for a $50 watch). However, do you think that’s the only “cost” to Target, just what they paid for those watches? That markup is used to pay for the infrastructure (buildings), equipment, display, distribution, employee salaries, services (lawyers, insurance, taxes, janitorial staff, security, etc. etc. etc.), charities, and after all that, the profits go to shareholders and back into investing in the company. They have to balance all that and still price their items to be competitive with all the other retailers in the same ilk. They can’t price products too high or too low for obvious reasons. Not to mention the fact that many brands do not let retailers sell their items for less than their recommended retail price (they will never go to clearance).

Based on the number of comments on this blog and others, my guess is that they lost a whole lot more than $300k today.

          • thecents2save

            In response to J.
Normally the “free” items are received by a combination of an in-store sale and a MFG coupon. The buyer may walk out of the store with the item for “free” but the store is being reimbursed by the MFG for the face value of the coupon, i.e. the store isn’t losing that money. Do you actually understand how basic couponing works?

            • Sally

But this is not a manufacturer coupon! It is a STORE coupon, which is basically the same as a STORE given discount! Do you actually understand how basic couponing works?

            • thecents2save

Sally. Really? That’s what you’re going with? You couldn’t do better? Darn. Since you obviously need an explanation, here you go.
J commented that couponers always get stuff for free and that we never have an issue with the stores loss on those items. I then commented that there is actually NO store loss on those items because the store gets money back from a manufacturer for the coupon free items, which is true.
Are you saying that if Target buys a crate of 50 watches for $100, marks them up 5x, but then 50 customers get them free with this STORE coupon that there is no net store loss? Darling clearly you need a math class. Seems to me they would be out that $100 right, i.e. a LOSS? Duh. So no, despite your (un) clever comment, they are not one in the same.

  37. Jack L

….in other news…the government is shut down today….in other words, there’s bigger fish to fry. How about putting some effort into writing your congressman/woman.

…and in local blogging news…there’s not all “Ladies” on here, can we get some equal rights? 🙂

    • Theresa

You are awesome, LOL! I just looked at this and the FIRST thing that came to mind (after “how did she do this again?”) was my oh my how catty women can be. I often wonder how men put up with us and here you are pointing out the bigger issues in the world. Lest we forget that watch was most likely made in China and probably only cost Target about $5 to which they applied 100% markup. I agree, LET-IT-GO!!!

Thanks for making me smile, Jack!

      • Theresa

Before anyone goes calculating my math, I was just stating it generally… I do know 5 x 100 is not 50.

      • Nick

Well this is why I’m glad I’m gay lol. I don’t have to put up with mean women (although a lot of you are still nice).

        • Nathan

          Too funny, Nick (but true)!

  38. tara

Thanks Colin! I apologize for all the rude commentary suggesting you exploit, the nerve of some people. You should have a banner that goes back to the ole elementary rule, “if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all.” Yes, I guess I am complaining about others complaining but it’s aggravating to read comments hoping to get some inside hints and people feel the need to blog bash. Meh, rant over, song.

  39. Taryn Beth

I’m in Southern CA. I did this deal about 2 hours ago. I happend to purchase the same watch as Mrs. Hip! Along with a clearance item of $2.38. Also, picked up a couple of other items I neeed. Total was $68 and change and after Q’s and phone scan total came to $2.87!

  40. Jodi

Worked in Buford, ga !! And I don’t feel a big bad. Target made the coupon not me !!

    • jack

what things did u buy exactly?

    • Leslie

      Hey that’s where I live 🙂

  41. Caly Ovi

It worked for me, thanks a lot :)! I’m from Chicago by the way.

  42. Rebekah

I just snagged this deal about 30 min. ago at my local Target (Chicagoland). The watch will make a great present for my nephew! Thanks!

  43. Marissa

worked perfectly around 12 norther ca time. bought some cute earrings and a watch 2.38+tax

  44. Tracey

Considering Target Corporate has already said this was a glitch, I’m surprised this is still being posted on this blog. You guys who now know this, please do not go out frantically and try to take advantage of a store that lets you triple stack coupons! (cartwheel, target, and a mfr)

    • Jodi

If you get coupon that make an item free or a MM. Don’t go get it !! Things are not to be free

  45. linda

worked in MI at 5 pm

  46. SiSi

just got me a pair of clearance earrings and a $49.99 Timex watch for $2.38+tax! thanks

  47. monica

Has anyone tried this since 5?

    • Amanda

Yes I went at 5:30pm and it worked and a coworker went about 15 mins ago and it worked in WNY

  48. Mallory

Worked in Indianapolis at 5:45 pm

  49. Lisa

It didn’t work in Cincinnati around 4:30. When the girl rang it up the computer said I had invalid items even though it was a watch and earrings.

  50. Ndh

Just finished at 4:45pm central time Texas
It worked there was no clearance under 5$ so I just bought pack of pearl studs earrings for 5$ that I know I will use and watch much needed for the gym post baby!
