The walmart savings catcher program will require walmart pay - Walmart Savings Catcher App

Shop at Walmart? 🛒

If you’re a Walmart shopper, their Savings Catcher program and Walmart Pay are two great tools to ensure that you’re not paying too much for your purchases and can pay (and get receipts) easily. Specifically, Walmart’s Savings Catcher compares your receipts to advertised prices from top stores in your area and if it finds a lower advertised price, you’ll get the difference back in a Walmart eGift card!

Within one week after picking up your groceries, just enter your Walmart Grocery receipt into the Savings Catcher section on the Walmart mobile app. Your rewards are automatically transferred to a Savings Catcher eGift Card each time they’re earned, and the eGift Cards are automatically saved to your Walmart.com account. You can then use the rewards to shop both online or in-store.

NEW Changes to Savings Catcher…

The walmart savings catcher program will require walmart pay - Savings Catcher Walmart eGift Card

Effective October 29th, 2018, Savings Catcher changed their accepted payment methods and Walmart Pay is now the only way to submit your receipt to Savings Catcher. Due to this change, the ability to scan paper receipts within the app or submit via desktop is now discontinued. However, this change will allow you to both submit and spend your Savings Catcher rewards within the same Walmart Pay experience.

The walmart savings catcher program will require walmart pay - Walmart Pay at checkout

Here’s how Savings Catcher works now:

Rather than scanning paper receipts using the Savings Catcher scanner after paying, you’ll simply create an eReceipt using the Walmart Pay scanner when paying. Here’s how:

  1. Enroll in Walmart Pay.
  2. Use Walmart Pay at checkout to create an eReceipt for submission:
    • Open Walmart Pay and select credit, debit, or gift card.
    • Use Walmart Pay to scan the QR code at the register to generate your eReceipt.
  3. Tap “Submit Receipt” directly from your Walmart Pay confirmation page or from your Savings Catcher dashboard on the Walmart app

What are the benefits of using Walmart Pay?

  • One touch submissions: Submit your eReceipt before even leaving the store!
  • Save time and space: Reduce wallet and purse hassles when you turn your phone into your secure mobile wallet.
  • Store your purchase history: Find your past purchases in your Purchase History, easily reorder your essentials, or start a Mobile Express Return—all within the app!
  • Print eReceipts for cash back apps: Select a purchase from your Purchase History, share, and print from your phone or email yourself your eReceipt. Then submit for cash back apps like Ibotta and Checkout51.

What do you think? Does this change the way you shop Walmart?

This makes it more difficult for me I will be shopping elsewhere

    • erinhill

I agree with you. I think this new way I very hard and the Walmart by us doesn’t even have those machines to create an e-receipt

      • Leslie Pate

I agree and I don’t like this new way. If you pay with a check though they will still give you a paper receipt. I don’t have a debit card and if I did I wouldn’t want it stored in an app.

  2. Patricia Clephane

I will be shopping Meijer across the street. This was a perk that I really liked from Walmart. using the receipt was easy and I could add the receipt when convenient for me not causing more confusion at check out. SAD.

  3. JEFF BRADLEY

Thanks for the changes to the savings catcher program. I will no longer be able to participate, because I am unable to submit my receipts with a desktop. I am certainly not going to purchase a smartphone just to use this program.

  4. Amy Workman

Omg!!! I really hate this!!!! So now they are going to force you to use the Walmart pay to get a savings! Makes me rethink on shopping there!

  5. Wanda H

They started this new Savings Catcher to replace the Match price program and now taking this away – what would be the benefit to stay shopping at Walmart?

  6. Danielle shelby

This was something I used often, copied my tc number from the app when I online shop and added it, now that I can no longer do that, what’s the point in using it?? Probably shopping elsewhere

  7. sue harris

I agree with what everyone is saying. I have been using this since it began having saved a bundle. I am not going to go out and buy a smart phone . It will cost me more to buy the phone than not use the program at all. what about all the folks that don’t even have a phone, but a computer? This is all wrong and I know you are going to lose a lot of business. Go back to the old way.

  8. April

What about shopping at Walmart.com and using Grocery Pick-up? I used to be able to use the tc number from either of those and have it go through Savings Catcher. Can I not do that anymore? If not, it’s a disadvantage for me and will make me think about other retailers for online shopping. As for in-store shopping, that’s one more step to have to do during checkout and with 3 kids under 5yo, the chaos of checking out will likely (just as it did TODAY when I was there) will cause me to forget to do it. And then I won’t get a benefit from it at all, so the app is just taking up space on my phone. It will likely get deleted after I use what’s left of my Savings Catcher money. 🙁

    • laura.marie1987@yahoo.com

Grocery pick up, no unfortunately. Customer service told me online orders will go through savings catcher, but it has to be “Grocery, Consumable, and Health and Beauty items” (that’s what they said in the email to me)

  9. Danielle

This used to be a great program. Guess Walmart has lost my business. I’ll just go to Dillons instead.

  10. Barbara Connally

    Very confusing. Makes me upset.

  11. Barbara Connally

    Time to rethink Target shopping!!!

  12. Donna

Do not like this new program!!!! I will be going back to my old way of shopping by checking sale ads and going to that store instead of Walmart.

  13. S Spargo

Terrible change. Forgot to use Walmart pay at the register and now the app won’t let met scan the receipt. So I lose out on any savings I may have had with this receipt?! Not fair! Have been a loyal Walmart shopper for years. Need to rethink this. Should be able to still scan a receipt at our convenience and not just at checkout!!!!

    • Patti M

I absolutey agree. I did not know and went to scan receipt and was unable to. Checked online and found this out. I have been shopping at Walmart since 1991 and have use Savings Catcher for years. Have a hefty receipt that I cannot scan. Shop Rite or Target for me.

  14. Beverly Sheffer

Personally this stinks. I refuse to use Walmart pay. Just another hassle I don’t need. I will cash in my last gift card and go on. It is not worth the hassle for the few cents I sometimes get back. Shame on Walmart for doing this change.

  15. Brittney Gulley

Not happy about this at all. I used to price match and was forced to change to savings catcher in order to get savings/matched prices. Now this is going away and I have to use Walmart Pay to get a savings. Won’t be shopping there near as much as I used to 🙁 Dollar General, Harps, Aldi’s and Target will get a lot more of my business now. Thanks a lot

  16. Mrs Karen Jacobs

Same as everyone else do not like this going to take up more time in line

  17. Judy Pence

I don’t like this new method. I’ve got two receipts I can’t enter now! This will take up more time at check out! AND I DON’T WANT TO USE MY CREDIT AT MY NEXT PURCHASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Cynthia Dimitroff

No thanks I don’t need another credit card. You took a great program and made it much worse for your loyal customers.

  19. Joyce Marley

I do not like this! You made it harder on your frequent shoppers!

  20. Vee

Total first world problem here, but I am not happy about the changes to the savings catcher program either! I use the grocery ordering app to pick up groceries 3-4 times a month and it has been a wonderful experience. Until the changes on October 29th, I have always been able to copy and paste my receipt codes (from grocery curbside pickup) into savings catcher and get good chunks of cash back every so often and now I’m not eligible to use savings catcher with a grocery pickup receipt?! Apparently I can either save money OR save time, they won’t let me do both anymore. 😟

  21. Lisa Wright

Disappointed in the way to submit receipts maybe that’s the idea so ppl want use the savings catcher if so you did a good job. Ill be using Kroger at least I’ll be get fuel points

  22. Mindy

this is a crappy thing to do to your loyal customers !!! I do not have a smart phone and I also have children that I take shopping with me so even if I had a smart phone I would probably forget to submit at check out. please bring back the option of submitting receipts at home on my computer when I have free time. Or I will have to shop elsewhere for savings.

    • Kristine D. Kern

      I agree wholeheartedly!!

  23. AJ

if they advertise that they match lowestprice then ishoultnt matter who scans the receipt whether its given to someone or by someone who wasnt going to use and didnt want it. walmart advertised it so they should expect it for every transaction like everyone was using it. this is there way of limitation of paying the savings and is seemed to target the lower income side of there customers, ones who dont have bank accts, smartphones, the elderly, seems very discriminatory to mee

  24. alice

This stinks. There are still alot of people who do not have cell phones and will not be able to cash in on the savings Thanks I will go to the store where it is cheaper.

  25. Kristine D. Kern

I’m unhappy as well. When I tried it my eGift card automatically helped pay for the total bill. I loved being able to save it up and use it for buying bigger ticket items ie bookshelf or Christmas purchases.
On occasion I would get cash back on my credit card and still be able to enter my receipt later. VERY disappointed in these changes. No longer customer friendly 😢

    • laura.marie1987@yahoo.com

You how to change the settings in Walmart pay and turn your ecard off.

      • laura.marie1987@yahoo.com

*correction* have to, not how to. I save my savings as well for Christmas and ect. I have mine turned off and continue to save it.

  26. Judith Altman

Unhappy for sure… I still carry an Old Flip Phone and want to know how I can redeem my points?

  27. Mary

Not happy with this new method at all. Will now rethink going elsewhere since I can’t scan my receipt and being forced to use their Walmart pay.😡😡

  28. Linda

Do not like your new saving catchers program! Will find a new program some where else.

  29. Kimberly Bullock

Hate it and will be shopping at Wal-Mart less!!! They should have never changed it!!!

  30. Mari Hupp

NOT Happy. What is Walmart doing. Trying to drive away customers? I loved the savings catcher. Used the money towards Christmas. This is going to make checkout a nightmare.

  31. laura.marie1987@yahoo.com

I know everyone is upset about the changes. I’ve been using Walmart pay this way so I’m use to it. I like that I could pay and automatically submit my receipt. And I can continue saving my savings catcher by changing the settings in my Walmart pay. I’m pretty sure they made these changes because of people that abused the system. like people that go around and grab up receipts that aren’t theirs and scan them. But what really makes me upset is we use Walmart pay to do grocery pickup. Like, you cannot do grocery pickup unless you have a Walmart pay account. So why can’t grocery pickup receipts go to savings catcher when were using Walmart pay to pay for them!? That’s insane and ridiculous!!

  32. laura.marie1987@yahoo.com

Also you do not have to summit your receipt right there. You can do it later, just FYI.

  33. Charles Reynolds

Walmart has made it impossible for me to continue using Savings Catcher because I use a Flip Phone! Thanks a lot!

  34. PamR

It was nice while it lasted, but I will not use Savings Catcher any longer.

  35. Jennifer Hopkins

This stinks, and once I use up my savings catcher rewards on my next grocery trip, I’m done with this. I have to set up a Wal-Mart Pay account just to be able to spend my saved up rewards, and input my debit card information to be able to even do that? Why? I don’t love the idea of Wal-Mart having my debit card number on file and making customers use their banking information through them to get in on the savings. I think I’ll be shopping elsewhere.

    • laura.marie1987@yahoo.com

I’m not sure when you signed up for savings catcher, but I got a gift card barcode and card # information in my original email that I use to use all the time to access my savings catcher. If you can find your e card information, you can do the same. Order online or in store and use it up.

  36. Dell Goodnight

I have saved some money with savings catcher now I don’t know have to retrieve my savings I am having trouble logging into savings catcher on my computer. Can I get an email or print off my savings and spend them at wal mart?
I do not have a smart phone to do this with please help me.

    • laura.marie1987@yahoo.com

Look for the original email from Wal-Mart when you signed up for savings catcher. All your card information will be in there.

  37. Sandy

Why do you have to change a good thing? The lines are long enough at Walmart without taking more time to do a stupid thing like this! I’ll shop elsewhere.

  38. Kayla Sarver

For my family, unfortunately, the savings catcher will no longer benefit us.
Most of the time my husband does the grocery shopping, and I take care of the coupons and savings.
He always brings home the receipt and I scan it into MY phone.
He has a Business/government phone and is not allowed to download apps such as Walmart, Ibotta, etc.
Surely, there must be other options where as we can still use the savings catcher without being required to have the app on everyone household cell phone.
PLEASE!!!!!……..come up with a solution whereas adding receipts after checking out is still an option.
Also, I do shopping for my elderly mother. She enjoys and uses the Saving Catcher as well!
Am I missing something or does this mean she can no longer use the savings catcher, since I’m the one that does the shopping for her?
(Unless I take her cell phone with me???)
Speaking for my mom and myself, we shop at Walmart specifically for the savings catcher.
But if this program is not as it used to be, and we can’t take advantage of the savings, I have a feeling many others, along with us, will look to do our shopping elsewhere.
We absolutely love Walmart, but come on,…….if it’s not broke don’t fix it.

    • angelgilly

I am in a very similar situation. My husband (who does not own a smart phone) does 98% of all shopping, since I am housebound. I receive all his receipts and submit my purchase information to the various savings apps I use – the main one being Walmart’s Savings Catcher. Well, with no smart phone, I’ll no longer be able to utilize Walmart’s Savings Catcher to save for Christmas, and with no paper receipt, I’ll no longer be able to use iBotta, Fetch Awards, Receipt Hog, Receipt Pal, and Coupons.com, to name a few. This sucks. We practically exclusively shop at Walmart for all of these types of savings, but now – we must find other ways to shop and survive.

  39. Sonya Fydenkevez

Guess what? I have Walmart Pay and when I tried to submit my receipt it said your store is no longer eligible for savings catcher. The associate at our local store said they are getting rid of Walmart Pay as well? Very confused. I think it’s getting too expensive for them so they are just cancelling them. I guess I’ll stop shopping there. Their loss.

  40. Gail briggs

I think it stinks. I hope Walmart looks at these comments. Gonna lose alot of good customers because of these crazy changes.

  41. Jan

I will definitely change where I shop for many items. I don’t have a smartphone, can’t use Walmart pay.

  42. Angel

This new method sucks another reason to hold up the huge lines when somebody is confuse and the cashier don’t have an idea how it works👎👎👎🤣🤣🤣

  43. Lori

This was such a great benefit to shopping at walmart. But for those of us that pay with cash, this is total bs. I will limit my spending at my local walmart and shop Kroger and local smaller businesses.

  44. debbie

I don’t like having to use the Walmart pay just to be able to have my savings. What if someone doesn’t have a debit card and pays by cash? How will they be able to upload their receipt then? I want this to go back to using the savings catcher to upload my receipts from walmart so I can get the credit. I just spent $89.00 at walmart and I can’t even load my receipt now because my husband paid for the items with his card.

  45. Christie W.

This is not an improvement at all. They’ve made it far more difficult, not to mention extremly inconvenient for the shopper. Most people aren’t even going to bother with it now. Thanks, Walmart, sigh…

  46. Carol

I’m going somewhere else to shop. I can’t buy any produce there anyway , the produce is nasty. So bye Walmart !

  47. Lucy Cooper

So not a good thing. I lived at Wally World (Walmart) and the discount on purchases was great. Now I travel 30 minutes to Kroger’s. They give electric coupons, use paper coupons, and have great in store savings. It’s not going on a card but I can see my savings on the receipt.

  48. Jack hilbert

What the h$!! is going on with Walmart? They reorganized all their stores. You can’t find crap. Discontinued a lot of products. Moved the bacon from meats to the eggs section (easy to remember cause you have eggs and bacon for breakfast). And now we effectively lose the savings catcher. People are waiting in line and I have to now take time to scan the receipt, get help to do it cause it did not work, call over a supervisor and it took 10 minutes. Time to start saving coupons again and head to the local market!!! They have gone all kinds of Arkansas on us…….

  49. Delores

I do not like the change! Please go back!!

  50. Sharon

I’m not happy about this. When I tried to scan my receipt found out about this pay thing. While I was looking at my receipt there was a $40 purchase for chicken. I did not buy chicken! I wouldn’t of even noticed it had I not had it in my hand calling corporate to complain about not liking that I couldn’t scan my receipt. So this in a nutshell to me will be when some glitch is on your receipt you won’t notice it. Put it back to the way it was, with all the hackers I don’t feel it’s safe to put your credit cards on your phone!
