The walmart savings catcher program will require walmart pay - Walmart Savings Catcher App

Shop at Walmart? 🛒

If you’re a Walmart shopper, their Savings Catcher program and Walmart Pay are two great tools to ensure that you’re not paying too much for your purchases and can pay (and get receipts) easily. Specifically, Walmart’s Savings Catcher compares your receipts to advertised prices from top stores in your area and if it finds a lower advertised price, you’ll get the difference back in a Walmart eGift card!

Within one week after picking up your groceries, just enter your Walmart Grocery receipt into the Savings Catcher section on the Walmart mobile app. Your rewards are automatically transferred to a Savings Catcher eGift Card each time they’re earned, and the eGift Cards are automatically saved to your Walmart.com account. You can then use the rewards to shop both online or in-store.

NEW Changes to Savings Catcher…

The walmart savings catcher program will require walmart pay - Savings Catcher Walmart eGift Card

Effective October 29th, 2018, Savings Catcher changed their accepted payment methods and Walmart Pay is now the only way to submit your receipt to Savings Catcher. Due to this change, the ability to scan paper receipts within the app or submit via desktop is now discontinued. However, this change will allow you to both submit and spend your Savings Catcher rewards within the same Walmart Pay experience.

The walmart savings catcher program will require walmart pay - Walmart Pay at checkout

Here’s how Savings Catcher works now:

Rather than scanning paper receipts using the Savings Catcher scanner after paying, you’ll simply create an eReceipt using the Walmart Pay scanner when paying. Here’s how:

  1. Enroll in Walmart Pay.
  2. Use Walmart Pay at checkout to create an eReceipt for submission:
    • Open Walmart Pay and select credit, debit, or gift card.
    • Use Walmart Pay to scan the QR code at the register to generate your eReceipt.
  3. Tap “Submit Receipt” directly from your Walmart Pay confirmation page or from your Savings Catcher dashboard on the Walmart app

What are the benefits of using Walmart Pay?

  • One touch submissions: Submit your eReceipt before even leaving the store!
  • Save time and space: Reduce wallet and purse hassles when you turn your phone into your secure mobile wallet.
  • Store your purchase history: Find your past purchases in your Purchase History, easily reorder your essentials, or start a Mobile Express Return—all within the app!
  • Print eReceipts for cash back apps: Select a purchase from your Purchase History, share, and print from your phone or email yourself your eReceipt. Then submit for cash back apps like Ibotta and Checkout51.

What do you think? Does this change the way you shop Walmart?

I am cashing out my current balance of $52.03 and not using this any more. Target is closer anyway and Tom Thumb gives me gas coupons.

    • kathysikes

Same…I’ll be using Amazon, Target and Big Y. At least (Amazon) gave employees a good raise. I was doing really well with them and Ibotta.

  2. Julie Reyna

I don’t like this change too confusing to me.. guess I won’t be using it 😔dont know how

    • kathysikes

The people that do my shopping won’t do this. I’m using what’s left in my catcher and deleting the app.

  3. Francis

Some things are best left alone it was good how it was I don’t like carry my phone in the store so I guess I won’t be using this no more
    Way to go Walmart

  4. B Jonas

Is this to stop people from using receipts of friends who don’t use SC? Or is it sontgey have your debit or credit card in their system? Nah, I’ll do Aldi/Meijer from now on. I shopped Walmart for SC. No more.

  5. Mary h

I don’t like the changes I try pay cash I don’t like debit or credit cards I shop generally spend $400 to $500 week at Walmart on groceries and things for grandchildren I’m gonna shop elsewhere. The only reason I shopped at Walmart was savings catcher made it easy to see that I got the best price. If they going to require that I use a credit card or debit card or a gift card that he overstepped their bounds I don’t like anybody or any business telling me how to pay for something when cash is the finals reason for them being in business

  6. Fanda

I do not like the change!!!! Please go back!! Using cash for my purchases!!!!!

  7. Fanda

Don’t like the changes!!!! Using cash for my purchases!!!!! Please go back:)

  8. Michael Jordan

Agreed. Go back to the old way. Makes it hard to submit receipts.

    • Leroy Jody Washington

Michael Jordan what’s crackalackin’! I’m a big fan. Used to watch you fly through the air defying gravity like you had wings on your feets. I have Air Jordans going back years brother man. Is there any ways I can get your signature on a few pairs? Not selling them of course, it’s just for my collection is all ;^) *wink wink* Wow, even the filthy rich shop at Walfart. I guess Walfart knows this and that helps them be even more arrogant and pompous. So they do whatever they want to do and don’t give two hoots if people don’t like it. They say they’re still number one so we can shove it and STFU. They know they could eliminate savings catcher and still be #1.

  9. Juan Antonio Suarez

I don’t think Walmart liked how much money they were paying out and had already paid out through Savings Catcher. Make it more difficult for customers to participate in Saving Catcher and Walmart’s bound to save millions. They’re the biggest and they know it. So they couldn’t care less if they lose people or not. When you’re number one in the world and in several programs with the government (some ‘ TOP SECRET’) you tend to get arrogant. The Walton siblings could buy a few more private islands and G8 jets to get to them, by simple cut backs like these.

  10. Debbie Z.

My husband does the shopping and gives me the receipts to scan with my phone. He will never add the app or credit card info into his phone. So this means I either have to go with him every single time he goes out or just stop using saving catcher altogether. Thanks Walmart for the huge inconvenience.

  11. Denise

Go back to the way it was or lose good customers!! I hate this way and its only to benefit walmart and that’s not right!!

  12. jerilynjohnson

I’ve spent $300 this week alone before I read the paper receipts won’t work. It’s not fair. At least allow customers the option to pay any way they like and still submit the paper receipt. My daughter and husband sometimes shop for the house. They especially will not use Walmart pay. Walmart, you’re screwing loyal customers.

  13. Jana Hartman

I do not like this change at all. Do not want to be forced to pay with a debit or credit card or forced to use the app for every purchase just to use Savings Catcher. So I will be using my savings and then deleting my app.

  14. TV

This is totally RIDICULOUS! Several members of my household do our family’s shopping, and I was the one who would input the reciepts to use when needed. This change seems to be for the Walmart corporation and not the loyal patrons who have faithfully shopped with them for years-BECAUSE of the Savings Catcher program. I am really unhappy about the fact that I will now have to do my own comparison shopping through the Sunday ads now, because I am definitely not going to give them my debit or credit card information, and they will be losing alot of our business. I am going to complain to corporate directly next, and I suggest you all do the same. Who knows, it may help.

  15. Robbie Wells

This is a horrible thing to do to your customers. Not everyone is techno savvy and Walmart is not allowing the older generations to do anything any more. I went to the returns line last week, where I have returned dozens of things over the years and after waiting in line for 30 minutes the girl told me I would have to stand in a different line because her line no longer did returns. It was an e-line. Everything done through apps. For those of us who don’t live through our mobile phones, this is not a fair practice. So, stood in another line forever.

  16. Eric

This is a terrible change for many reasons. I mainly shop at Walmart knowing I can always count on getting the lowest price. This new change is confusing and I don’t like being forced how to pay. I will now go to Kroger that is right down the street from me.

  17. Mary

I agree with the comments above. This is a terrible change. I don’t like being forced to use the pay app to use the savings catcher. How does it work if you want to pay cash but still use the savings catcher? I just see where the app automatically goes to your debit/credit card, I’ve tried changing it to “Don’t use credit or debit cards” it will not keep that change. Walmart needs to rethink this change and go back to the way it was.

  18. peter zack

The change in savings catcher makes the lines longer. The associates know nothing about it. You all should have said that you wanted to end the SC program I will not use walmart ecards or credit cards or use walmart pay I will no longer order anything online.

  19. askmrhp

I am going to remove all ecard and creditcards. and end Walmart pay.
the associates know nothing about the changes and it makes the lines longer.
    good bye walmart.

  20. chris w

I dislike the change totally. I will be going to Meijer now for their discounts. My husband does the shopping on his way home, and he has a flip phone still! He would bring me the receipts and I would put them in my phone. We would save up the money and use it while on our vacation for food and misc. Also, I take care of my 80 year old mother and I do her shopping for her. I scan her receipts into her phone when I get to her home, as I cannot take her phone with me, she needs it for emergencies. She is on a limited budget and this has helped her get her food cost down. This is also tie up the lines and make the checkout procedure more horrible than it is already. They never have enough checkout lanes open, and the employees act like it is a huge inconvenience for them to even help you. Terrible change Walmart — go back to the old way!!!

  21. Laurette Adams

Using up my savings catcher dollars and then deleting the app. Don’t like this at all…Target, you got a new customer!

  22. Danielle

Feels good to see so many like minded people. So annoyed with this.
I also have been using Grocery pick up and you can no longer submit e-receipt from the Grocery app for SC. This frustrates me incredibly. I’ll be going back to shopping the weekly sales and coupons and using Ibotta I guess!

  23. Reginald Spurlock

    Terrible

  24. Virginia Born

I agree with every comment. This new app sucks so bad. My son took my phone with him to walmart, i explained what he needed to, guess what, it didn’t work at the register. The cashier didn’t know how to do it. Same thing tonight when i picked up an order. The manager didn’t know how to use it. I’ve got 4 receipts to put it. You people have seriously screwed us over

  25. Keishia

I hate it. Liked the old way better- too confusing. Not going to continue this.

  26. Zorba

I absolutely refuse to have anything to do with smartphones in the first place – and now WM is trying to shove this down my throat? Even my wife, who does have a smartphone, is smart enough to NOT put payment information on the silly thing.

  27. Jojo

Too confusing and I do not like storing card information in my phone. Too much hacking going on all the time. What about the folks that still write checks. I see many elderly people still write them. Just let us scan our receipts, and your right the store associates are clueless on the new method, they can hardly be friendly when you check out, and then trying to ask them something, that’s a joke.

  28. laura.marie1987@yahoo.com

You still have 7 days to submit your receipt as long as you use Walmart pay. If you don’t have a debit card and still want to continue using Walmart I would suggest buying a $10 or $20 gift card. Then pay the majority of your order in cash, then put the change on Walmart pay with the gift card. That will last at least 10-20 trips. Just trying to help those that are closer to a Walmart than anything else like myself. I’m sorry to anyone without a smartphone. It’s not worth the switch.

  29. Paul

Horrible! These changes made to Savings Catcher will stop consumers from using the app. No one wants to give out there credit information due to so much hacking. How secure is Walmart’s webs. Will be cashing out my balance and no longer using Savings Catcher unless Walmart reverts to old system. Walmart needs to listen to their customers.

  30. Hank

    Will cash out and delete. S T U P I D

  31. Barbara Jaremczuk

Stupid! Just a way to confuse shopppers concerning the little amount of money we can get back. I don’t even want to shop at Walmart for doing this!

  32. Stephanie

This only works if you are using your credit card all the time. Not everyone does that or wants top do that. I like using cash. Now that the app has changed and not for the better I guess I will start shopping else where in order to get the best prices. Walmart is going to loose a lot of business as people like the price matching of other store without going to the other stores.

  33. Pat

This forces someone to use a credit card. Someone who pays with cash can no longer use the saver catcher. This discriminates against that person who wishes to use cash. I use credit my boyfriend cash and I would scan both. I will cash in my saved up balance and get rid of the app all together!!!!!

  34. Susan

My Wal Mart account got hacked a couple of months ago. Customer service deleted my account, therefore I lost about $30 in SC money. Had to start over, now they make this ridiculous change! I really didn’t want to put my credit card info on my account just yet, but did because I shop at WM ALOT and wanted to continue with SC.. guess what? When i checked out and tried to scan the code, it wouldn’t work! Guess I will start going back to Publix right down the road for the BOGO! Everyone is much nicer there anyway. Wal Mart has gotten greedy and looking for ways to screw over loyal customers!

  35. Chris Smith

This is too confusing! Why change it? Half the time my internet doesn’t even work in the store to even bring up the savings catcher app! I’m done with this! Don’t fix what isn’t broke.

  36. Jody

I’m disabled and my daughter runs my errands for me, so this is not going to work for me. Time to start shopping elsewhere.

  37. Claudia

Walmart why the change ? To confusing for people

  38. s. smart

this app is crazy, if just wants to save Walmart money. What about the people who pay with CASH!!!!!!1

  39. Susan

DO NOT LIKE THE CHANGE AT ALL!!!! I’m handicapped and have people shop for me which does not allow me to use the much needed savings this provided. Such a disappointment!!!!

  40. Vickie

I am disabled, just finished 18 weeks of radiation & chemo & radiation implant surgery. I need to get my groceries & personal items today and use my SC to pay and I can’t go to Walmart! My son was going to go for me, but No way he will go through this hassle and inconvenience! I have been very loyal to you for years Walmart even before SC, obviously as well as the other people commenting have been, and I have saved up $175 in my SC and now I can’t use it for my groceries! This is unacceptible and wrong Walmart to treat us this way! What you have surrepticiously done isn’t just “bait and switch”, it’s like “theft by deception”! You wanted to make it harder, inconvenient for customers to use their SC because you knew most would be upset, aggravated and not use the SC money and you’d keep it! You need to do the right thing Walmart and go back to what makes your Customers happy! Hopefully you read and pay attention to customers in these posts and go back to the previous system immediately.

  41. Trish

I hate the new Savings Catcher I personally don’t want to put that much information into my phone. Love the old Savings Catcher it was working just fine wasn’t broken don’t know why you think you had to fix it. Now I have receipts that I cannot scan or get any credit for need to change it back I get back to taking coupons from other stores. Thanks for nothing

  42. Peggy

Awful!. Being forced to use the savings each time u check out instead of letting it build up

  43. Carolyn

Refuse to give Walmart access to my credit card! Will cash out and go to Aldee’s. Their prices are better! Now I just need to find out how to get my money back!!! Tried calling Walmart & was put on hold for 20 minutes & then I could not get an answer that I could understand. The way I understood is that we have to join to get our money out. Hope not.

  44. Denis Curtin

I do most of the shopping at Walmart. The app is on my wife’s phone and she may not be with me. So goodbye Savings Catcher. Did anyone at Walmart survey the loyal customers prior to making this terrible change?

  45. Laura K.

No happy about this at all! I don’t want to always have to pay through the walmart pay app. And I don’t want my debit card associated with it. And like the above customer I am not always with my husband and I’m the one with the app. Very disappointed.

  46. Ashley House

We live out in BFE so I have ZERO Internet inside our Walmart. I already can’t use the app to redeem my rewards in the store since they changed it last time (I printed out my gift card and they scanned it at checkout) now I can only redeem online because I can’t get Walmart Pay to load in the store. . If that wasn’t bad enough now we will not be able to use Savings Catcher at all. No worries though. That was the primary reason we shopped at Walmart so we will just shop elsewhere. 🤷‍♀️

  47. Stephanie Mock

I hate this. I am disabled and depend on others to do my shopping. I can’t allow them to take my phone with them to have access to all my other information. So now it looks like I can no longer use the savings catcher program. I am so upset and disappointed to the point that I really don’t know if I’m going to continue to even do my grocery shopping at Walmart any longer.

  48. mary ann lundgren

I hate tis new change, clerk had no idea how it worked and the app was to hard to use. I’m going back to Publix!!

  49. Texas Momma

Walmart has simply became greedy. Sam Walton could be so disappointed! Walmart use to be the place to shop and they would match prices no matter what ad looking as you brought the ad, they continue to come up with excuses not to have to give back to the customer! Money is the root of all evil! That’s what the word says. Forget customer service!!!

  50. Tracey

I spend about $1,000.00 a month at Wal-mart. I want a choice as to how I pay and I don’t auto pay anything. I will use my rewards, delete the app and shop at Publix!
