This is all you need for that time of the month. Period.

After 5 cycles of testing the affordable Thinx For All period underwear from Walmart, I’m sharing why you might want to stop paying twice as much elsewhere.

If you’re familiar with Thinx period underwear, you know they’re a fantastic companion during any women’s cycle. However, similar period panties from the Thinx site will run you well over $30. Which begs the question of why every woman isn’t running to Walmart to scoop up a pair by the same brand and half the cost. 🤩

Of course, I realize you get what you pay for, so that’s exactly why I wanted to test them out for myself.

And no, this post isn’t sponsored by Walmart, Thinx, or anyone else for that matter!

I simply have a passion for great reusable products and even more so when they’re better for your body too so I’m excited to share this find with you!

These are the Thinx For All period panties I’ve been using for the last FIVE cycles:

Target shoppers! You can find these same Thinx for All Period Underwear for $17 there too!

They’re mid-rise, have full booty coverage, and can absorb as much liquid as 5 tampons, 2.5 pads, or 1.5 menstrual cups. 🤯 Talk about an amazing eco-friendly switch! 👏🏻

They also come in a wide range of sizes from XS to 4X. 🙌🏻  Better yet, compared to the Super Cotton Briefs at Thinx, they’re an $18 savings per pair. 😮

*Sizing reference: I ordered size XS and typically wear a zero in women’s jeans.

In the past, I’ve raved about my menstrual cup and how it totally changed my life so I was excited to test out these period panties in addition to my cup.

Honestly, there have been times at night or when being gone for long periods of time where I’ve leaked with just my cup and it’s always extremely inconvenient (as many of you know). So I knew having a great pair of period panties would make life so much easier and more comfortable every month.

Now, I don’t own any other Thinx period panties so I want to preface my review that it’s solely based on my thoughts about this pair I purchased at Walmart.

However, I’ve had an inexpensive pack off Amazon for over a year so I do have some experience with other pairs. Over the last 5 months, I often found myself comparing the two (as shown above).

For starters, this Thinx For All period underwear is super comfortable!

Compared to my other pairs of period panties, these fall slightly higher on my hips which I like since I tend to wear high-waisted everything. More importantly, on the days I feel bloated I don’t feel like they dig into my stomach whatsoever.

I also appreciate the booty coverage. This is definitely necessary if your goal is to stop overnight leaking. They’re also very soft, which I wasn’t expecting for such an affordable price.

In fact, I find myself wanting to wash these immediately so I can keep slipping them on rather than all my Amazon pairs.

Speaking of washing, they couldn’t be easier to take care of.

Since they’re black, just like my beloved menstrual cup, you’ll never have to worry about staining. There have been multiple times these came through for me and every time they come perfectly clean.

They are able to be machine washed and are meant to air dry, but if I’m being real, I didn’t realize that detail until I wrote this post. 😂 So just know if you buy these and accidentally toss them in the dryer, everything will be okay. 😆

That said, air drying does encourage their longevity so I will be doing that with my Thinx from here on out. 😉

For the times I have leaked while wearing these panties, I still feel amazingly dry! That also means staying comfortable if I’m out and about all day has been a non-issue. 🙌🏻 My only complaint is these panties aren’t seamless. I did know this when I bought them, but it’s still worth mentioning.

I typically wear seamless panties, so when I wear these panties I’m just more cautious of what I’m wearing to complement them, but I typically go for looser-fitting clothing anyways.

Nonetheless, they truly do an amazing job at wicking away moisture and don’t feel overly bulky like most pads.

Overall, I love these period panties and they’ve quickly become my new favorite!

I feel so comfortable wearing them and never once have they leaked through! With the addition of my menstrual cup, I have all the confidence in the world to sleep comfortably all night long…and in a bed with all white sheets at that! 👏🏻

It would honestly be hard to ever justify spending more than twice as much for the same brand name knowing these already provide everything I need. 🤩

Here’s what others are saying about their $17 Thinx For All period underwear:

“First time trying period underwear and I have to say I’m surprised. I have a pretty heavy flow and these work well. They actually absorb better than regular pads and don’t feel as puffy. I’m happy with my purchase and will be buying more to use fewer pads.” – Karen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“I’m impressed by how comfortable it is to wear these briefs! They’re supportive and not too much different from wearing regular briefs. I’m also impressed by how functional these were to eliminate the need for other feminine hygiene products to control my flow.” – Shelly ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have been looking at these for my teen daughter but they were too expensive before. Do ladies wear a pad with them too or just the panties?

    • Ayanna

Hi GTgrad…I’ve been using these for about 3 years and I don’t need a pad with mine.

    • frecklelily

I have been wearing these for years. I will tell you what works for me. First, I ONLY order the super absorbency ones and wear them no matter how little my flow is. Secondly, while they hold a lot of blood, they do have a tendency to smell after a couple of hours which can lead to embarrassing odors. I have found that I prefer to wear a pad WITH the THINX while I am out of the house. If the pad gets full I will just remove it and then use the underwear till I get home. This prevents the odor smell from occurring. If I’m at home all day, I’ll just wear the THINX and change them every couple of hours to prevent odors from happening. At night, I only wear the THINX. HTH!

        How do you wash it?

        • frecklelily

You can put them in the laundry. If they smell it is recommended you put them in a water/white vinegar solution until you’re ready to wash them. I wash them with all my other clothes, but it is recommended you hang them to dry.

    • Sara

Depending on how big your daughter is, H2S posted a sale for the thinx warehouse a few days ago, and I was able to get some of the teen thinx btwn for only $7 each for my daughter.

  2. Elsie

How often do you need to change them?

    • frecklelily

Depends on your flow. If it’s light, you should be able to go 8+ hours. If it’s heavy, I’d say every 4-6 to prevent odors. I only buy the Super absorbent ones and wear them no matter if I’m having a light day or heavy day.

  3. Melanie

Target also has them for $17!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the heads up on that, Melanie! We’ve added that option to the post. ❤️

  4. Kimberann1

Do you have to rinse them before putting in the wash? There could be a lot of blood in the load of laundry.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Hey there! I found this on the Thinx site for washing instructions – “Just throw your Thinx in with the rest of your laundry on a delicate or gentle cycle (your other clothes will be fine!) with mild detergent. If you’re machine-washing, make sure to wash ‘em on cold — the standard cold wash is 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit (15-27 degrees Celsius).” Hoping this is helpful! 🥰

Just a friendly bit of info for all of us ladies. Did you know that vaginas (and all that comes with them) can bleach fabrics? I never realized that until my black undies started bleaching, and the Thinx are no different (I know, because I have them). Just thought I’d let you know that it might not be staining that you’re seeing with these- it might just be vaginal superpowers in action.

  6. Tired

How do you know when it’s “full”? I have strange periods (or a strange body). It can be heavy one hour and light the next.

    • Sara

I don’t know when it’s “full,” but I change mine when I get dressed in the morning and before bed, or sooner if they start to feel uncomfortable, which doesn’t happen often.

  7. Christina

I usually wear a 2x or 3x & I bought the 3x & it cut into my legs. I bought a 4x & it still cut into my legs. I wish their sizing was better. My periods are irregular so I do have to change about every 3hrs w/the Knix brand period underwear. I would love the fuller coverage the Thinx has as I usually spot above or below where the pad coverage is and feel it should be wider area. I was hoping to try the Thinx but until they have bigger sizes that don’t cut of the circulation in my legs w/nerve damage I have to relegate myself to a combo of pads & period underwear combined. I will say the Knix sleep shorts are better @ night keeping me dry all night. Wish I could try the Thinx….

  8. Barbara

In the photo of the two pairs of underwear that you compared, can you tell me the brand of the one on the right? My daughter prefers more of a full booty coverage and those look like ones to try out. Thanks!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Barbara! Those are the Innersy Brand from Amazon.

      • Barbara

        Thank you!

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

          You’re so welcome! ❤️
