Does the popular Hawaiian roll French toast food trend live up to the hype? We think so. Here’s why this brunch idea is a winner!

I tried the viral TikTok trend of making French toast using King’s Hawaiian rolls. It was some of the BEST French toast I have ever had, and it would make a yummy addition to a New Year’s brunch.

The toasted custard outside, paired with a soft, chewy middle, is undeniably delicious. You may even find it featured at trendy brunch restaurants near you!

*If you have an absolute favorite recipe for French toast featuring eggs, milk, and ground cinnamon, by all means, feel free to use it here. I have been making French toast lately with a little sweet cream coffee creamer for some added sweetness and love the result. I also add a little nutmeg and love that flavor.

Extra tips for making the best Hawaiian roll French toast:

  • As far as the milk goes, you can definitely sub in a specific type that you have on hand or desire. For instance heavy cream works, half and half, whole milk. Coffee creamer works as a clever non-dairy option or even almond milk.
  • Be sure to quickly dunk your rolls and not leave them to soak. That will create soggy bread. I think kitchen tongs are super helpful for this.
  • You can consider cooking these in the air fryer if desired. I bet that would give a yummy texture. Try 375 degrees for 5-6 minutes until browned.
  • Feel free to top your French toast as desired with fruit or nuts. I love a classic berry and banana combo, but use your favorite fruit! Rolling them in a granulated sugar and cinnamon mixture would be delicious too.

I love this as a lazy Sunday morning breakfast for the family. We added some crispy bacon on the side and this was an excellent brunch! Plus, it was easy to make too.
