One Reader Uses This Clever Dollar Tree Hack to Save on Gift Wrapping Costs
Cut down on your holiday expenses using this reader’s Dollar Tree hack.
Raise your hand if you’ve ever carefully budgeted for a present only to realize you forgot to factor in the high price of the wrapping paper or gift bag? Between the gift wrap and the card, you can end up spending $5 – $15 dollars on top of the actual present.
Fortunately, this week’s Happy Friday reader, acgold, has a genius Dollar Tree hack that can keep the price down. This advice was so good that we had to take a break this week from sharing your deal finds and hauls, to share this money-saving tip!
“When I have something large or odd shaped to wrap I buy a Dollar Tree tablecloth! They are more economical than big rolls of wrapping paper!”
“They are very pliable, for odd shaped gifts! I even wrapped a stroller in 2! They have all kinds of patterns seasonally and always have solids! If they are a little see through, you can double them, there is enough length!”
We love this idea, acgold! 🤩 This is such a GOOD money-saving tip and your tablecloth-wrapped presents look fantastic and festive!
Packs of wrapping paper rolls at my local store cost about $4.99, so your tip will definitely help me save on gift wrapping throughout the year. With the holidays coming up, I’m sure I’m not the only one in the Hip Community that will be racing to the Dollar Tree this season!

I am totally doing this when the situation arises! : ) Thanks so much!!! I love it! And I would love to see a whole post on different ways to use Dollar Tree tablecloths. I know I cut a rectangle tablecloth into 2 even squares and lay those on an angle overtop of the plain white roll of banquet plastic cloth for church dinners. It adds a lot of color. I have also seen the tablecloths used to make big impressive photo backdrops. But all that aside, thank you for today’s great content! : )
I have some gift boxes to wrap for some of our local nursing home residents and I have been putting it off because I know that the wrapping paper is going to tear from the box corners. I will be going today to get some holiday tablecloths! Thanks for the idea!
This is brilliant! I got my son a mattress-in-a-box and I was struggling with how to wrap the giant box. I will definitely be adding this to my Dollar Tree list! Thank you so much and happy holidays!
Genius idea. Will use this idea when needed. Thanks for sharing!
Um hello? This is an AMAZING idea. Going to grab some this weekend!
What a great idea!!! I am going to try this with some odd shaped gifts I am giving this year.
Thank you for sharing. What a great life hack!
I used Dollar Tree shower curtains as tabletop covers during a shower I hosted. It may sound tacky, but they were elegant prints, and a way to cover all my surfaces in the room, including some risers I had put underneath to vary height of my decor/food. I fastened them in a way where you couldn’t see the holes in them.
Genius! I need to wrap a set of car floor mats, and this will be so much easier that piecing together wrapping paper–and less expensive too.
I did this to wrap large photo canvases for my parent’s anniversary. I found a large shiny silver Mylar tablecloth that was perfect to wrap two large canvases because it was wider than wrapping paper. It was $2.99, not $1, but still prettier and less expensive than buying wrapping paper and i still have some left.
